Grr. Hadn't realised it was a communicator, I was getting it confused with another phone. I just love Nokia's naming system. Still, its processor is only marginally faster than mine - 332MHz, apparently. Reports say 500kbps mpeg-4 is ok, but the odd frame gets dropped; so I wouldn't go above this ki...

I'm not sure of the ins and outs exactly, I just know it's a ceiling that's been hit in development. Maybe there is some way to get around it, and this question needs to be reopened. Either way, the advanced options in HandBrake only relate to x264 - the video codec - so you're not going to find a m...

The encoder HandBrake uses - faac - seems to top out at ~80 per track. That's 160 for stereo. No idea why. It seems silly. And unfortunately, faac is actually the best cross-platform solution, so it's something HB is stuck with - unless there's a change of heart on OS-specific features, which sadly ...

Larger will always be better - more information is stored about the video stream - although there is a point where it's pointless going higher, as it's higher quality than the original DVD... So you're limited by your source material. ~76%, off the top of my head. Something like that anyway. General...

You've not really given a lot of information here - for instance, are you selecting a subtitle track? Do no subtitle tracks work? We don't even know basic stuff like what platform you're on or whether you're using a gui or cli version. We don't know whether you're ripping to .mp4 or .avi or .mkv... ...

The short answer is, your DVD player will not recognise output from HandBrake. It is entirely the wrong application to be using to make copies of DVDs. Look into Toast, Popcorn or DVD2oneX, all used in combination with MacTheRipper, if you're on a Mac. There will be plenty of equivalent Windows prog...

You could always start from the original DVD. This is one of many ways to do that. Come to think of it, ffmpegX should take your movie file as input.

IIRC, one thing that could cause the old audio drops was if your machine was low-powered - or your processor was being taxed by another app. If you've got other stuff going on, try leaving HB to do its stuff alone. I think, but I might not be right, that these blips are where HB is recovering from w...
