Re: Tips for Converting Color Video to Black & White
Try Avidemux instead. Two methods: GreyScale filter or MPlayer eq2 filter and drop the saturation.

Avidemux can transcode audio but process video in Copy mode.

Re: Preset audio sample rate reverts to 48 kHz
Here is what is getting saved in presets.json. Note that "AudioSamplerate": "auto" is being stored. Recall that "auto" is being respected during the session in which the preset is saved. Just not in the next session. "ChildrenArray": [ { "AlignAVStart&quo...

Re: Encode MP4 from separate audio and video files
Avidemux. It can loslessly merge/join. It can or transcode audio/video into all(?) the codecs and containers supported by HB. It's weak on batch and correcting bad aspect ratios. I use HB mostly, but use ADM for cases like this.

Re: Preset audio sample rate reverts to 48 kHz
EDIT: FYI, still broken 1.1.2. Same behavior as before.
Preset maintains audio Auto sample rate within the session in which it was created. Exit HB. Reverts to 48 kHz sample rate for that preset after launching again.
Deleted Custom presets and re-created. Same issue.

Preset audio sample rate reverts to 48 kHz
Description of problem or question: I created a custom preset that I use as my default. The audio uses self-compiled HE-AAC, 64 kbps bitrate, Auto sample rate. I noticed the encoded videos were using 48 kHz sample rate regardless of the source. For the default preset, after creating it, Auto sample...

Re: Handbrake moves to FFmpeg: improve AAC audio quality?
Ignore the politics and compile yourself for FDK-AAC. I'm not a programmer, and I do not think it's an easy task add FDK AAC to Windows GUI! Following the compiling instructions is trivial. You can literally copy / paste the commands from the narrative. Read carefully to make sure you're copying th...

Stuck at Scanning Title 1 of 1
Description of problem or question: After a failed encode, when I try to pull it off the queue to put it back on, HB gets stuck at Please Wait ... Scanning Title 1 of 1. There's nothing wrong with the videos. HB read it fine to get it on the queue the first time. If I drag / drop the original file ...

One note, the location of the nasm source is wrong. The instructions give the location with http protocol, but it needs https for the tarball p...

Re: Converting Lots of Short Videos MOV to MP4
If not HB command line, then maybe with ffmpeg. Here is a .bat file I made to "fix" some .m4a audio files that wouldn't play. It is written to use from Windows Explorer. Drag the files and drop them onto the .bat file. It loops through each of the files that are dropped onto it, running th...

Re: Boost and compress audio for web publication
... his next question will be "how do you know how much?". This happens to me quite a bit. If the source container is MP4 with either MP3 or AAC audio, I use MP3Gain and perform a Track Gain. Easy because it actually works on videos, so I don't have to separate the video from audio. AAC au...

Re: Hyper-threading: is it worth it?
Ivy Bridge (3xxx) to Coffee Lake (8xxx) would be that jump. CPU frequencies aren't much higher after 5 generations (25%?). Thinking about getting an i5-8xxx when they go mainstream later this year, but wondering if the extra money for an i7 is well spent or money-down-the-drain. On the flip side, Co...

Re: Hyper-threading: is it worth it?
I thought about that. One estimate is chips designs are 3-5 years away which don't have those vulnerabilities. So buying new right now isn't any more or less secure than what I'm running today.

Hyper-threading: is it worth it?
Description of problem or question I have an Intel Core i5. Feeling a lot of processor envy. Wondering if I swap it out for a Core i7, would hyper-threading cut the encode time in half? Typical encodes use AVC x.264 / HEVC x.265 and libav AAC / FDK-AAC. I sometimes use decomb, denoise, deblock, too...

Re: MKV to MP4 Help Needed
Barking up the wrong tree? I have used imagemagick to convert video to animated gif. Not sure about the supported containers and codecs, though. https://gist.github.com/CoolOppo/f54d86abe726bb7827e6 If all you need is to change the container without transcoding, then consider Avidemux. Note that the...

Re: Audio defaults not saved
The audio defaults are part of the preset, so you have to save a new preset. Given your response, this feature needs some UI improvement. Audio --> Configure Defaults and Audio --> Reload Defaults are useless and greatly misleading buttons if they don't do anything and if their behavior is consiste...

Audio defaults not saved
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: Audio --> Configure Defaults --> Save is not persistent between HB sessions. New session gives AAC (avcodec), 96kbps Stereo. If I save a different default, close HB, launch HB, open a video, the saved audio settings are not used....
