Re: New Icons

Possibly a solid circle or rounded square with the play symbol cut out of it? And it can be dark grey like the other icons.

Re: HandBrake 0.9.8 Released

So there's no hard and fast rule like, "this episode needs to fit on a disk that's 1GB"? Assuming you're talking about 45-minute episodes here, you could get pretty much the exact same results by typing 3000 in the average bitrate field. And if you encode a 22-minute episode (half the leng...

HandBrake will crop any black bars from the edges of the frame, which means your output video can have smaller dimensions than the input.

Most likely case is he didn't use the same settings. Dynaflash asked him for logs of both his encodes and he could only provide one, so there's a massive "[citation needed]" hanging over his claim.

Re: How to get original quality conversions

Does whether your Oppo read chapters depend on the codec? E.g. for MPEG-2 video it doesn't but for H.264 it does?

Re: How to get original quality conversions

Maybe you should consider getting a better media player that does support chapters in MKV with MPEG-2, and ISOs.

I know that sounds snarky, but if 1:1 quality is your priority, it's better to go down that route and it will save you a whole bunch of time when encoding.

Re: How to get original quality conversions

By using HandBrake, by definition you will lose video quality, as the video needs to be re-encoded. If you want a one-to-one copy of your DVD/Blu-Ray as an MKV file, I suggest MakeMKV instead. In direct answer to some of your questions, however: 1. MKV and MP4 are just containers that bundle the aud...

Re: Missing Options In Handbrake Updates

Do a forum search for "Target File Size": this has been discussed a number of times before. That feature has been purposefully removed and will not be making a reappearance. It was very useful for converting videos that didn't need to be as big as they were. How did you determine how big a...

Re: New Icons

I'm wondering if it is possible, for example, that the brake becomes HandBrake's application icon, but the "Put down that cocktail..." dialogue still has the pineapple cocktail. Although that's probably too little just to have it show up there.

Re: New Icons and UI tweaks

Although, personally, I really, really like that design, probably more than I do HandBrake's current icon. I like how it's a hand brake (as opposed to a Devil's Handbrake, the cocktail) but also a spool of film. Do you have that as an .icns file? I might well use that as the icon on my computer. Con...

I would love to contribute to HandBrake, but can't code in anything other than JavaScript.

The only thing I could think to do is help to spruce up the documentation a little, if that's something that would be somehow worthwhile.

It is the Google ads that are causing the security error. While, yes, there is absolutely nothing to worry about, it kinda bad UX, and a little disconcerting to non-web-savvy people to be informed that "the website is not secure", even if in reality it is. If Google ever let's you serve ad...

This is a textbook example of when you would need to use average bit rate and specifically not target file size, even if it were available.
