Ah sorry, got a bit confused there.

Codec packs cause more problems than they give benefits due to problems like multiple codecs trying to decode the same thing.
I'd recommend uninstalling it and installing http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/

What you can also do (with 7zip not sure if you can do with other extractors) is right click on the .msi file and click extract. Then you can run the Handbrake program, this bypasses the .net and the ram check.

It's probably because you are using your G4 laptop, but what is your quality setting?
What didn't work when you tried the windows HB.

Handbrake cannot transcode. Look at something like mediacoder for that.

What did you encode it as?
Do you have a decoder like FFmpeg installed?

That sounds like the mpeg2 error I was getting until I compiled it with the mpeg2 patch. Which version are you running?

328MB is the amount of minimum RAM not hark disk drive space...

Very good update, requests admin rights on Vista (which will help solve a few problems) and the splash screen now works.

Yeah I did think that Apple probably wouldn't help people but it might be related.
On Vista when loading iTunes the whole iTunes window is black until you either minimise it and click on it from the taskbar or just maximise it.

I was just thinking that perhaps the black screen problem is the same problem itunes is having. Maybe you could ask them to share any thing they know about it.

It didn't fix the black screen on load up for me.
