Except it's reading direction from the DVD, which slows it down quite a bit. It's another reason to rip first, then run handbrake.which requires an extra (but generally quick) pass through the video.

Re: Editing chapters
Not within handbrake. There are utilities to edit chapters out there, though. mkvtoolnix comes with an editor for chapter tracks, but I've not used it more than to try it. You would then set the new chapter file as the chapter file for the video. Be aware that if you set a chapter change that does N...

Different settings will give different results.
Seeing the encode logs from the two sets of settings would be helpful. You've described one set, but not shown them.

Re: Subtitles not copied in transcode
"OP" means Original Poster (i.e., you). "Forced" means a subtitle that is displayed regardless whether you have subtitles generally turned on. Usually, it's when you have foreign audio or video that is different from normal. Think something like German in a French movie, when you...

Re: Windows Add all to queue doesnt follow the actual file order!!!
Amazingly, computers go by methods involving numbers we humans don't think about. And multi-digit numbers sort differently if their digits are spread over different columns. As mduell points out, "1" comes before "2", but "10" also comes before "2", because th...

You've had word from one of the people (s55) who run the project. Who do you think is necessary to be "the Copyright holder"?
Or is your purpose to test the system, not to ask a question?

Re: How to Reinstate My License To Continue Using the HandBrake App If Violation of License Terms Happened?
The original installer is how most people get handbrake, even from the developers. I use it all the time, and I haven't had a copy of the source code since the last time I had to look something up. It's available, which is the important part.

What seems to be your issue? Is handbrake not running? What error message is it displaying if not?

Re: What is Google Photos High Quality equivalent settings?
Can you download the video AS STORED ON GOOGLE without any changes? If not, what does it matter how they store it? You may find that if you shrink your 1GB video to fit in 300MB, then upload it, it ends up being stored as 100MB. You tossed out detail from the video to make it fit, so they can simply...

Re: convert audio only
Handbrake is designed for converting video, and does audio because it is found in video tracks. So no, it doesn't "just do audio". There are several open source projects that can do "just audio", including ffmpeg. They're better fits for what you are looking for, because they can...

Re: Bug When Converting Multiple Files At Once
Handbrake does not use your "current settings" for batches. It reverts to the saved copy of the settings for anything past the current file. Whether this makes sense or not depends on your reasons for changing the settings.
Batches are created from the saved version of the settings.

Re: Adding encode duration to file naming
Do you have an accurate way of determining the length before the encode is complete, without someone typing it in? Reading a part of a video does not definitively determine the length of it in time. The file name is set when the job is created, not when it's done, so setting the name before that is ...

Re: Episodic Series Output File Naming
Handbrake doesn't know the contents, other than the file name. If the file name contains the season and episode number, your inclusion of the title would show that. But it can't detect it within the file itself, and it doesn't break the title down into parts.

Re: 1.6 won't read a DVD; 1.5.1 worked fine
As mentioned, handbrake has not included ripping stuff for a dozen years now, because it was part of a different project. It can USE ripping code if found, but it doesn't include it. Even when it's found, it doesn't always work or provide "perfect reads". There are a number of tools that w...

Re: Subtitle settings for foreign films - What is best practice?
The practice would be to enable the subtitle in question, and burn it in. The questionable part of it is, "Which subtitle NUMBER is 'english' and is it a full subtitle track, or only the parts that are non-English?' Your example has two English subtitles, for different reasons; one for each pos...

Are you reading directly from the copy-protected DVD, or through something that is removing the copy protection first? A lot of people add a third-party utility to read from DVDs, then are surprised when the new install does not recognize their forgotten 3-party code.

Re: Emulate the compression of this movie for my videos? testing settings
The people who created the copy allowed the compression utility to encode into it the commands necessary. They did not use handbrake, so the command line is not the same.
If it's important to emulate them, you would want to use the same commands on the same program.

Re: How to get correct title names of DVD titles/episodes in filenames?
Since it takes 3rd-party software to have handbrake "read" a DVD, it would take 3rd-party software to automatically name files based on what that 3rd-party software did.
So, probably not.

Re: File naming - I tried this in the Windows section
Handbrake WILL open empty, it just doesn't like it. Hit escape when it's prompting you to select a file if you're going to do something like this. They changed the behavior to ask-on-open because most people didn't want to do "weird things", like change the configuration on load. I'd prefe...
