Re: Converting DTS to AC3 for Apple TV
Couldn't this be implemented in handbrake so that it could automaticly convert our dts to ac3 passthrough? A lot of people are doing blu-ray rips now, so I'm sure a lot of people would apreciate it, and seeing as it's part of ffmpeg, I guess it wouldn't be to difficult to implement. It's a bit time ...

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4
I presume you didn't change the fps of the file as this would generate a choppy file.

Getting the aspect ratio correct for Horton hears a who
I'm currently using the blu-ray disk "Horton Hears a Who" as an "experimentation" file. I'm basicly trying out various settings to try and learn as much as possible about the encoding process to try and work out the best procedure for me. I'm doing pretty well at the moment. With...

SSD drive in Apple TV
I was wondering if anyone has attempted installing an SSD drive in their Apple TV. I'm asking out of plain old curiosity as I don't intend to actually do this. I was basicly wondering if anyone has given it a try, and if so, has the sync speed been improved as a result?

Converting DTS to AC3 for Apple TV
I found out that ffmpeg can convert my DTS soundtrack to AC3. I'm ripping some blu-ray films that don't have AC3 so I thought I'd try converting the DTS track to AC3. The code that I've been suggested is as follows; ffmpeg -i sample.dts -vn -threads 8 -acodec ac3 -ac 6 -f ac3 -ab 640k sample.ac3 I s...

Re: Backup DVD 1:1 to HDD - confused
There is a program, at least there used to be, called K9Copy (or K9Kopy). This program does exactly what you want. It transfers the contents of a DVD to an ISO file keeping menues, etc, intact and removes copy protection. You can then open this ISO file using VLC to view the content.

Apple TV needs new hardware
I was looking at the file support for the iPad on the apple site and it said that the new iPad supports 720p for both 24 and 30 fps. Apple TV only supports this for up to 24 fps. Surely Apple should understand that when their tablet device is capable of decoding higher quality video than their dedic...

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4
Out of interest, if encoding time is of no concern, I'm currently getting roughly 15 fps but could live with as little as 1 fps, what kind of settings could I use? I'm trying to learn how to put together my own presets, but it seems to be a steep learning curve :P. I figured I could start the encode...

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4
I see your point. I had not considered this. It seems a bit of a shame that backwards compatibility has to come at this expense. Unfortunately though, movies and TV shows are not available on iTunes in Norway, so it doesn't really matter all that much to me. Ripping is the only way for me to get my ...

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4
Thanks DynaFlash for your settings. I create a new preset using in combination with the resolution used by the standard apple preset. The content is PAL so it would probably work fine as 720p, but I decided against it. I didn't really see the need for 720p. I've now used these settings to rip four o...

Apple TV HD preset
I was wondering if it isn't time that there was made an Apple TV HD preset. I've been converting my blu-ray films using makemkv and handbrake, but I'm not really sure I'm using the best settings as I don't understand all the advanced stuff. Currently I've just used the Apple TV preset and changed th...

Re: Blu-ray support?
It's strange. I discovered that the file I thought was sucesfull was not so, but I now changed one setting in handbrake. Instead of using Constant Quality at 59%, I instead tried selecting avarage bitrate at 2500, and it worked perfectly on all 3 blu ray films I've tried since. I'm not at my compute...

Re: Blu-ray support?
I sucsefully converted a blu ray today. Not really sure why it worked now and not the other times I've tried. This is the first time I've tried this specific film though, so that might have something to do with it. It's great being able to watch my legaly purchased disk on my tv for a change instead...

Re: General HD presets for AppleTV,PS3 and Xbox360 ?
Unless I'm mistaken, you have to encode your video for the least powerfull of the three machines for it to work on all of them. I don't have much technical knowledge about xbox360 or ps3, but seeing as they can play blu-ray and hd-dvd discs I presume they are more powerfull than the Apple TV which c...

Handbrake better compression results than iTunes???
I was watching I am Legend at a friends who got his copy from iTunes. The quality was, as always with iTunes, not the most impressive. Luckily though he hasn't got a very big TV, so we didn't really notice anything. Just recently though, I purchased the DVD and used Handbrake to rip it using the App...

Re: Blu-ray support?
Tropic10, isn't AnyDVD HD the ONLY way to get it off? Not expecting you to point me to anything else, seeing as that would brake rules, just a yes or no answer :) So have I understood it correctly that there are more complicated legal issues with supporting blu-ray and HD-DVD decryption than there i...

Re: Where do you see handbrake 3 years from now?
I just thought of something I hope will come along by then. The ability to rip the audio of a dvd to AAC so that I can rip consert dvd's from within handbrake instead of using other programs for this. Every time a new Handbrake release comes along I keep thinking "What could they possibly be mi...

Where do you see handbrake 3 years from now?
I was just thinking about how long I've been using handbrake for and realised it must be about three years now, and I realised how much better handbrake is. This got me wondering how handbrake will be in another three years from now. This is what I'm hoping to see in three years time; - Full support...

Output resolution different from source
Currently converting Citizen Kane for my Apple TV. I unchecked the anamorphic setting and discovered that when I select the option "keep aspect ratio" it insists on an output of 704 x 544 when the input is 720 x 576. Why is this? Also, I've already tried converting this film with anamorphi...

Re: Blu-ray support?
It may be possible, but it's not what I would call stable. I've been trying for days to convert blu-ray films, but something always goes wrong. My last attempt resulted in a loss of audio and the picture started breaking up after about 50 min. That was, so far, my most sucesful attempt. It's also a ...

aTV avoid black pillars on 4:3
I purchased the entire first season of the flintstones from itunes. The problem is that when I view it on through Apple TV I get black pillars on my screen because it's 4:3. When I view 4:3 DVD's I never get black pillars. It seems like it cuts off a bit from the top and bottom of the video to fill ...

Blu-Ray Wall-e loses sound
I've just converted the blu-ray edition of Wall-e for my Apple TV, but after about 60 - 70 minoutes I lose sound and the picture becomes unstable. Before this, the video plays perfectly. I ripped the blu-ray using anydvd hd then used handbrake to convert the m2t files using the Apple TV preset. I se...

Audio Preview
I just spent 3 hours encoding the blu-ray version of Wanted only to discover that I selected some language other than English. When I selected which audio to use none of them were named, so I just selected the first one and presumed that was correct. Is there a chance Handbrake might add a preview b...
