Re: HD movies: does it make sense with my hardware equipment
You have a 12gb mkv of Avatar? Have you already compressed it once? The blu-ray rip of avatar would be closer to 45gb. I hope this hasn't been downloaded of the net, as that would be against the rules of this forum.

Re: No Valid Source Found
I had the same problem. The MakeMKV forum states that handbrake sometimes has problems with BD rips that have subtitiles in them. I did some new rips with only audio and sound, no subtitiles, and it now worked like a charm.

Avatar now rippable with MakeMKV
Can't see that this has been mentioned yet, so I just thought I'd inform people that MakeMKV is now capable of ripping the Avatar blu-ray and is, as far as I can tell, the only native Mac application capable of doing so. Can't wait to rip my copy and put it on my Apple TV :D. I really don't see why ...

Re: Quick question about Apple TV resolution
Thanks for the advice. Incidently, is there a guide to calculating this? I had a look in the wiki but could not see anything. Also, is this a bug in Handbrake or is it due to other things? Would be nice if that could be fixed if it is a bug, as I now plan on using this method for all my films that h...

Re: Quick question about Apple TV resolution
So for best results I could use custom anamoprhic to set the output as 1280x720 and then let the anamorphic sort out the aspect ratio by using the "keep aspect ratio" button, right?

Quick question about Apple TV resolution
Now I know that the Apple TV allows for 720p/25fps. What I was wondering though is how anamorphic affects this. If the file is 1280x720 but anamorphic makes it larger, will it still play on the Apple TV seeing as the actual resolution is within the limits, or does this limitation apply to the resolu...

Re: what are you watching this weekend?
I do agree that this is a bit shortshighted, but the majority of stuff I have is on DVD anyway. I tend to prefear purchasing DVD due to their price. I got the Planet of the apes collection for the equivelent of $10 and a boxset containing first three x-men films for the equivelent of $5. Considering...

Re: what are you watching this weekend?
The TV is use with my Apple TV isn't really big enough to notice the difference between SD and HD content, so I always rip my DVD's if I have a DVD copy of my movies. Concidering I don't notice the difference there really isn't any point for me to spend the extra disk space on an HD rip. Even with S...

Re: Movies look better on TV than laptop, does Apple TV upsc
According to the Apple TV forums over on the Apple site, the Apple TV does in fact upscale video. I guess the DVD player in OS X doesn't do this which would explain a lot.

I went back to using the 0.9.4 stable and encoded 15 dvd's, including the ones that didn't work with the nightly build I was using, and I havn't had a single problem now.

Re: what are you watching this weekend?
I thought the new version of BD+ encryption used on the Avatar blu-ray hadn't been cracked yet. Avatar is being released in Norway on wednesday, so I'll be heading out to pick up my copy after work. According to the description on the internet, at least here in Norway, the Blu-Ray box also includes ...

Movies look better on TV than laptop, does Apple TV upscale?
I've been watching my DVD rips on various devices. I have them on my laptop and sometimes watch it on there. It's a 15 inch Macbook Pro. When watching on the Macbook Pro, I can easily see the difference between a DVD rip and a blu-ray rip. When I use my Apple TV to watch it on a 40 inch tv though, t...

what are you watching this weekend?
Enough talk about ripping, encoding, file formats, gadgets, etc. Lets talk about what truly matters. So what films are people planning to watch this weekend, if any? I'm working this weekend (I work as a security guard). Weeked shifts are basicly graveyard shifts, Basicly I spend 12-hours sitting in...

Sound dsitorted at beginning of file
I just finished ripping the DVD Reservoir Dogs. At the very beginning of the file, for about halv a second, there is a very anoying distortion in the sound. When I started playing the film I actually thought my speakers were bust for a second. I replayed the start of the file several times and it ha...

Re: WDTV Best Quality Size No Matter
To me it sounds like you would be more happy using MakeMKV. Using MakeMKV you can convert your dvd to MKV format without doing any encoding on the video. MakeMKV also lets you select only what you want from the DVD so you don't end up with audio and subtitle tracks for languages you are not interest...

DVD copy program
I was wondering if anyone knows of a free DVD copying program. I'm going home in about 3 weeks for a few days and I have a huge collection of DVD's in my parents house. Now I don't want to transport those DVD's all the way to where I live now, so I figured I could make copies and place them in a fol...

Re: Just want to say "Thank You"
Well said. I spend several hours a week watching videos on my Apple TV and iPod. Without the time and effort people put into handbrake, I wouldn't be able to do that. Sure there are alternatives, but they are all so cumborsome compared to HandBrake that I wouldn't bother converting as many DVD's as ...

Re: Converting DTS to AC3 for Apple TV
Couldn't this be implemented in handbrake so that it could automaticly convert our dts to ac3 passthrough? Of course it *could*. Quite simply no one has done it which is why its not there. Fair enough :). Wish I had the knowledge to do this kind of thing myself. I'd actually be willing to pay $50 t...

Re: Possible to: DTS to AC3 with demuxed audio?
I spent the last month or so trying to get my blu-ray disks over to an Apple TV. In the end, I gave up. Not because it can't be done, but because it was extremely time consuming. Converting PGS subtitiles so that I could burn "forced subtitiles" into the video, converting dts to ac3, remux...

Re: Slightly confused by iPad specs
In other words, I don't have to worry about it. I rip my DVD's at 2500 anyway, but I was just curious more than anything. With the iPad being so capable, it makes me wonder why they don't put together a more powerful appletv.

Re: M2TS to M4V preserve quality
Blu-ray files have way to high a bitrate for any current apple device such as iPad, AppleTV, etc. It's also to big a resolution. You'll have to compress them in handbrake first.

Re: Elgato Turbo.264 HD, iPad and more
the turbo.264 really is a great product, but if you want control over your export settings, go for handbrake despite the lack of turbo.264 support. While we are on the topic, would it be possible for handbrake to support the turbo.264 device at all? It's a great product and I would love to be able t...

I was looking at the iPad specs and I when looking at them I couldn't see that the video specs for 720p/30 video mentioned bitrate. Does anyone know what the upper limit for bitrate is?

In adition to a log, maybe you could post a 10 second clip on the web somewhere so that we can experiment with the video ourselves.
