Re: Avg Bitrate or RF for BD backups?
RF 20 is really huge considering saving private ryan is exceptionally long and extremely grainy. No wonder it ended up massive.

Re: Can DVD ripping code be put back now?
Well, anyway, I thought i would bring this up because it does make it so much easier to do. Not that i am complaining about using DVD Decryptor or MacTheRipper, but for some of us that only have like 12 gigs free at any given time, to rip a 8gb dvd kinda is a hassle. well given you mention MTR, I a...

Re: [PATCH] Fix multi-line SSA packets
davidfstr: not laying it off on anyone, but due to j45's (JohnAStebbins) heavy involvement with libhb and more specifically subtitle code I think it only prudent to get a nod from him before committing. Hopefully that will be soon.

Re: Action if mp4 without large file size selected gets too
Um, you could always make your own presets with 64 bit mp4's checked until the built in presets get changed as long as all of your target devices support it. I hate to throw the onus on the user but ..... ;) Like many things ... what seems simple on the surface is not always so. Its life. Live it. A...

Re: Can DVD ripping code be put back now?
Now that ripping dvd's are legal if you use it for educational purposes, such as ripping your owned dvd (not rented) dvd to your ipod or whatever, can you guys put the code back in both the mac and windows version of handbreak? Um, the windows version *never* had any decrypting capabilites whatsoev...

Fixed as of http://trac.handbrake.fr/changeset/3461. Thanks noved for picking up on this. I don't use the alert window normally, just growl.

My suggestion re: sound is to make it an option independent of the modal alert dialog.

Re: Nightly r3458 ends 1 job before queue is empty
I'll do another DVD encode the same way with previous nightly builds I have (r3435, r3428, r3402) and post the results. No need. Rodeo reproduced it as well as I. I have it fixed here locally but am rolling with another alert upgrade so might be a bit before its committed. Thanks for the heads up o...

Re: iPad movies subtitles = Perfection
What amazes me is how everyone wants to "hard code" (i.e. burn-in) their subtitles for playback on Apple devices, completely unaware that said devices support TX3G soft subtitles that can be toggled on or off as you see fit. As long as you have access to text-based subtitles (external SRT...

Re: Change Request: Bouncing Dock Icon
Um, that patch doesn't change the bouncing icon when using the alert panel. Did anyone actually try it ? As per Apples docs it shouldn't as well since as per http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Cocoa/Reference/ApplicationKit/Miscellaneous/AppKit_Functions/Reference/reference.html#//...

Re: [Fixed] [MacGUI] [svn3443] Leopard-compatible build fail
Sorry about the snafu. For some reason I did not note that NSRunningApplication was 10.6 only, that coupled with the earlier x264 swscale 64 bit issue on the nightly server made for a tough week for mac nightlies. My apologies. All should build okay now as per Rodeo's link above.

Re: AC3 Audio missing on Apple TV
A quick test to see if its the hb encodes or your setup. Restart your AppleTV. When the intro movie plays as the atv starts up you should see "Dolby D" or something on the front of your receiver if your hooked up right. If you don't its your setup. HandBrake AppleTV audio was crafted right...

Re: AC3 Audio missing on Apple TV
The apple tv looks at the first aac / ac3 set of tracks as the same from a ui standpoint, it uses the aac if it does not detect a dolby 5.1 capable audio device and the ac3 track if it does and you have Surround turned on in the atv's Settings > Audio menu. If you were to add say a third aac track o...

Re: Best possible settings for Apple TV....
... so you think I won't see any difference when I use an RF of 15 (or even 16)? The thing is that I am watching the encoded material on 50" Plasma (Pio 5090). And I would like to "conserve" as much quality as possible. What do you think about the other settings I have posted? Cheers...

Re: Volume issues with playback
I believe what you want is a "gain" control. hb does not currently have this. Other than dynamic range control (making the soft sounds louder) I don't think hb can do what you want. However drc at about 1.25 has proven to help in my own encodes. As always ymmv.

Re: Presets for Target Size
It is neither present nor has been requested afaik on *any* platform. In general Target Size is considered bad form for any type of decent video encoding from any kind of a quality perspective. In other words you have not missed anything. It does not exist and likely never will in any official preset.

Using a Nightly build of HB you can encode from time to time (seconds to seconds) or frame to frame as well as the existing chapters.

Well, not too much. You can only get so much out of the older 5g ipod. I had one for a long time and it was okay going out to a 36" sony but much bigger than that and it can struggle.
