You know, probably the only video format it will ever read is amv. It's not really an mp4 player.

Compile it on a ppc mac, then on an intel mac. And use lipo to create an universal binary. It's easy.

Some questions about handbrake and audio encoder.
Does HandBrake internal always uses pcm 16bit? If yes, why does it uses float for every pcm sample?
Are the start and stop pts of HB_AUDIO_FRAME actually useful? The only muxer that uses it is the mkv one.
Please bear with me and with my stupid questions

That's quite strange. Did you duplicate some tracks? Mov and mp4 are basically the same.

Re: AC3 Channel Assignment
Well if you play the ac3 stream on your computer with vlc or quicktime probably it won't use the correct channels map. If you use passthrou to a receiver it should be ok.

Re: AC3 Channel Assignment
Oh right. It's a problem, as the specs for ac3 in mp4 says to use L C R Ls Rs Lfe, and L R C LFE LS RS isn't an available option. I don't know what we can do about it.

Re: AC3 Channel Assignment
Well if you are using ac3 passthrou and it's different is definitely a bug. Can you post the two layout?
It should be L C R Ls Rs Lfe for ac3 and C L R Ls Rs Lfe for aac.
It should be L C R Ls Rs Lfe for ac3 and C L R Ls Rs Lfe for aac.

Can you try with post svn1983 build? These random crashes should be fixed by our last ffmpeg update.

Re: Exact Backup of DVD
x264 100% CQ is lossless. But the size would be more than 3 time the original size. All the data from the original source that aren't in the compressed mpeg-2 video are lost forever.

Re: Re-encoding AC3 Only Movies
I used QT Pro to extract the AC3 file, which I saved as AAC. I then copied and pasted back the AAC file back into the origninal movie into QT, and saved as M4V. Seems to work so far. Took around 20 minutes for Ned Kelly :EDIT: Oops, forget my idea. Quicktime saved as a .mov file. Not sure how this ...

Re: [PATCH] High quality AAC encoder on Mac OS X
1) 90% of the handbrake's developer own a mac. And it's not like we don't have platform specific problems already (ffmpeg on windows? libswscale on 64bit?) 2) I don't think apple is gonna break is own state of the art api used by their own applications and by every other professional audio app anyti...

Re: [PATCH] High quality AAC encoder on Mac OS X
Well the choice here is to have an aac encoder that sucks on every platform or to have an additional one on mac os x that sucks a bit less. And IMHO one platform is better than nothing. I don't want to add this to turn the other platform in second class citizens, if there was a free encoder that we ...

Re: [PATCH] High quality AAC encoder on Mac OS X
As we all love cross-platform features parity in libhb, the truth is that after an year and half, there is no aac encoder on par with apple and nero ones yet (and not even par with lame and aoTuV). So I think it would be a really nice addition to add apple's aac encoder as one of the usable encoder ...

The Universal preset uses two audio track. If you uses only one when converting avi files it won't crash.

Unfortunately, faac is the only free aac encoder that we can use on windows at the moment. And it can't go higher than 160kb/s for stereo in abr mode.

Re: This has to be the S L O W E S T piece of software...
You know, if you want you can make it go even slower.
Or change the encoder to ffmpeg or xvid.
But HandBrake isn't any slower than any comparable video transcoder.
