That sounds quite annoying. And there's no way in QT Pro to use a setting which leaves them optional rather than permanent?

Re: Deaf people may rejoice (if in an NTSC country) CC are here
Actually, mkv supports vobsub pass through, unlike mp4. So HB will support vobsub soft subs with mkv. J45 is figuring out the encoding and muxing. If using mp4 you either have to use CC, burnt in vobsub, or SRT input files. Cheers Ed That seems to cover all bases as regards getting subs on to the f...

Re: Deaf people may rejoice (if in an NTSC country) CC are here
The Vobsub problem has always been that they are pictures. The following workflow is required: DVD source (Vobsubs) -> OCR (with human guidance like Subrip) -> text track (e.g., srt) -> zipped onto m4v via Muxo/Subler/(A future HB?) The second step invariably would break the process since it require...

Re: Deaf people may rejoice (if in an NTSC country) CC are here
Can't wait for the next release. When I passed a few sample files from DVD through CCextraxcter, it picked up all the CCs perfectly, regardless of how often and long they were. Are there any limitations on the HB CC extraction and subsequent addition to m4v files? I.e., I was reading about some issu...

Re: Closed Caption not visible on converted Ipod Touch mp4
yes - CC will not be burnt in, they will be soft. That's great news. For CCed DVDs, HB will then be a one click solution for providing an m4v with chapters and soft subs ready for iPod/iPhone. Would the extraction be done via, e.g., the McPoodle-based CCextractor code? Despite living in England (R2...

Re: Closed Caption not visible on converted Ipod Touch mp4
I can see how DVD subs are burned into the final file since the subs are pictures (vobsub, etc.). But since CCs are text, surely HB will not be doing: CC text -> pictures -> burned in m4v ? I.e., since the CC track is already available as text, dare we hope that selecting this option in a future bui...

Re: Subler (like Muxo, maybe better?)
Some DVDs (Region 1) have Closed Captions. These are text nad need no OCR. There is a command line tool (CCextractor) which can extract CCs as srt files. Surely a workflow should be possible whereby we do DVD -> srt via CCextractor, DVD -> m4v via Handbrake and finally srt + m4v -> soft subbed m4v v...

Just out of curiosity, what are Android requirements for video? Is there a resolution limit? Can it play H264?

Re: Tool to add subtitles to mp4s
Indeed. It's pretty immaterial (apart from AppleTV) whether the end product is stored in the CC or the sub section of the m4v container. Of course CCs as a source are a different matter. Some tools already exist to get CCs into an m4v, but they are all lacking in one way or another: - http://www.zei...

Re: Tool to add subtitles to mp4s
Sure, but the tools to do that are rather creaky and subject to non-function without rhyme or reason: http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?t=4172#p22999 One of the advantages of using subs rather than CCs within the m4v file is that subs can be turned on and off using the gui of the video player,...

Re: Tool to add subtitles to mp4s
http://kneeslasher.googlepages.com/Handbrake.jpg/Handbrake-large.jpg Hopefully the ccextractor route will become available shortly from the positive noises posted recently. Presumably, the DVD -> ccextractor -> muxo -> m4v file route can be integrated into HB eventually since it requires no OCR?

Re: Tool to add subtitles to mp4s
I see that iTunes/Quicktime now had an option for CCs and another option for subs. If even one of the possible routes (vobsubs (DVD)-> sub track (m4v), vobsubs -> CC track, CCs -> sub track, CCs -> CC track) could be formulated, that would complete the quest. As previously mentioned, CCs are highly ...

Re: Tool to add subtitles to mp4s
I've been following Entropic's thread in the Development forum, whilst keeping as quiet as a mouse of course, with baited breath. This is a superb achievement. Bascially, we can zip up an m4v (audio + video tracks) with a subtitle track just like what http://www.cpcweb.com/ provides, but without pay...

Maximum kosher resolution
I'd been religiously using a maximum resolution of 640 by 480 to ensure the files were playable and transferable on to my iPhone and iPod. Previously, it has been brought up that the iPod can play files of higher resolution, but these cannot be synced via iTunes. However, it appears that higher res ...

Re: [Updated: SUCCESS!] Non-Handbrake solution for Subs/Captions
I haven't tried it with Windows yet: presumably, QT for Windows also has the features described? Incidentally, the method is a little hit and miss: it works in very limited cases. The new CC tool (ccextractor) mentioned on McPoodle's page may help here. Has anyone used ccextractor to get CCs off a D...

Re: QT Subtitles & Closed Captioning (Mostly Bad News)
CCs do have at least one advantage over OCR's VobSubs: no OCR mistakes. As pointed out, it should just be a connection of DVD CCs -> SCC CCs -> QuickTime CCs. I've tried doing exactly this in a very long and roundabout way using McPoodle's tools and a QuickTime importer for SCC CCs (see http://forum...
