Sadness.

After extracting the raw commentary audio files from the old rip, and adding them together with the new anamorphic 5.1 aac rip... MP4Box loses the anamorphic flag data. The video plays back as it was encoded on the DVD (squished horizontally) and not at the correct ratio. :(

Any ideas?

I'm using the the latest code and building it myself as an honorary developer. (That is, I could work on it - as I am a programmer by trade - but haven't had the time to do more than glance at it so far.)

But yes, it WILL have 5.1 AAC in the next release.

I'm looking into the MP4Box program that rhester suggested. I'll be messing with it more tonight. Hopefully, it will work... :)

Merging Tracks Post-HandBrake

Anyone use a tool that will combine certain tracks from one mp4 file with tracks from another one, without re-compressing either the video or the audio? I've got so many of my DVDs ripped using the old HandBrake and that include all the commentary tracks. Now I'm starting to re-convert them with the...

My receiver has discrete 5.1 inputs (6 RCA inputs), so Griffin's Firewave works for me. I just installed it a few days ago, and HandBrake's 5.1 AAC files work great from Quicktime player, as does DVD playback from DVD Player. I don't use Front Row though, but I'm sure it would work fine. Instead, I ...

Forum Login Fails With No Error? (Then Read This)

This happened to me, and perhaps to more of you. Since once it happens, you can't post to ask how to fix it, it my be a big problem and we're just not seeing it. It's easy to fix, though! You need to open up your browser's list of cookies and remove the ones for handbrake.m0k.org and all should be w...

Apple's catchphrase for the AppleTV is:

If it's on iTunes, it's on TV.

So one might think that, if it plays in iTunes now, it will play on AppleTV later.

I've seen no reason to think otherwise, but only testing will show for sure.

Where do I select the option to "Hint for Streaming"? In Handbrake? As I said, in MOV files. HandBrake doesn't create MOV files (though it may n the future - it's being worked on) so it can't add Quicktime-specific features like that. But, good news, you can open a HandBrake-created file ...

In mov files, you can "Hint for Streaming" which sets the video up to play before the entire thing had downloaded. It waits instead for enough to come in so that it won't run out (at the current download speed) before the end.

MacTheRipper 3.0r14 Released

The new MacTheRipper beta is out, and when you use the main title extraction, it will remove zero-length cells for you, without needing to use DVD2OneX.

Great news, I think. Here's hoping the beta goes well. It will help HandBrake with troubled discs, like those from Sony.

I haven't used it much, but QTCoffee might just do the joining faster than a recompress would.

I'd love to hear how well it works. I'll try and give it a test run myself soon.

Has anyone tried the AAC 5.1 with a Griffin FireWave? I was just thinking about ordering one.

If can be tested with the new Fantastic 4 trailer (which has AAC 5.1) from Apple's trailer site:

Does that happen for all DVDs, or just that one? I can see a DVD being encoded like that, but it's possible HB/MF would be doing it too.

Thanks for the tips. I'm trying out both movies overnight. Did a test with Fun With [Censored] and Jane, which also has this protection, and that worked great. Unfortunately, it didnt make the movie any better. Ooh, yeah. Gotta agree with you on that one. That should probably be a feature request, ...

You don't have to burn to a DVD to use DVD2OneX. Just save it to a new VIDEO_TS folder and give that to MediaFork/HandBrake.

I would think that even if HB or MF deinterlaced a TV show, it would look the same after VLC's blend deinterlacing. VLC would just ignore the lines that HB/MF created and make its own. If you want to really understand interlacing, check out at least the pictures in th wikipedia entry: http://en.wiki...
