Re: Encode hangs up at end

Thanks, but as because of your earlier advice I've been using the current Snapshot with these files that hang (so far both were remuxed with tsmuxer and both had True-HD I resampled with that program to AC3 and then both had the AC3 passed through in Handbrake). Remember, I'm making MKV files just i...

Re: Encode hangs up at end

And yet still ANOTHER m2ts file hangs up on me in Handbrake. Sigh. If there's anything the two have in common is they are both True-HD tracks downmixed to AC3 (but otherwise the AC3 track is nothing special). I'm beginning to wonder if Handbrake just can't deal successfully with most m2ts files, par...

Re: Encode hangs up at end

I just looked at some guides for using Ripbot and it doesn't appear to me there is anything I could have turned on or off to speed things up. Since the recommended setting for quality is around 20 (resulting in an even longer encode, I'm sure) and the recommended setting for Handbrake (for BR) is ar...

Re: Encode hangs up at end

Well, I have to admit I know almost nothing about Ripbot (whereas I'm pretty used to Handbrake). I used a "quality" setting under CR of 22, which is what I also used in Handbrake. IOW, both are ripped with one pass at constant rate with a Quality of 22. Both passed through the audio track,...

Re: Encode hangs up at end

Ripbot had no problems with this file -- but Ripbot takes about two-three times as long to do its thing as Handbrake does (my guess is because it doesn't use the latest version of the X264 encoder. It's too bad that HB has a bug that keeps it from processing this M2TS file properly, because I'm goin...

Re: Encode hangs up at end

And just to finish all that I know, I tried it with .94 with the same results (hangup at end). Upon further review (football season winding down) the file actually isn't complete even when I run it back through txmuxer -- it's about 99.5% there but is missing the last 10 or 15 seconds. I'm going to ...

Re: Encode hangs up at end

I don't know if it will help, but I ended up taking the resultant file (after closing down Handbrake) which would not play properly in VLC and running it through txmuxer and making another M2TS file (not changing any of the streams or anything) and this new file does play properly. I'm not sure what...

Encode hangs up at end

I'm trying an encode of an MT2S that keeps getting all the way through to 100% but then hangs up. The command line window stays open, it shows 00:00:00 at remaining time, but won't finish. The resultant file seems to be there except it won't advance or play properly (it will start playing but trying...

Can I passthrough True-HD?

I have been transparently passing through AC3 and DTS tracks to my MKV rips in Handbrake and they work great on my output device (WDTV). Now I come across a "True-HD AC3" track and am wondering what happens if I try passing through that track? If I select AC3 passthrough will it handle it ...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion

I'm using a much simpler workflow here -- just taking the largest MT2S file and running it through Handbrake, which has worked fine for the four movies I've tried so far (G.I. Joe being one of them). I passthrough the DTS because my target isn't Apple TV (I'm creating MKVs to use with WDTV). So far,...

When do I use the Snapshot?

So far Handbrake .94 has been working perfectly for me... and then I ran into a .MT2S that it couldn't handle (however, neither could Ripbot and it appears for the same reason, that there was something amiss or odd with the DTS track that caused both programs to crash). Someone here kindly suggested...

Re: encoding bluray to mkv - quality over file size.

Um, not trying to hijack this thread, but what if you ARE concerned about file size? What kind of reduction (if any) do we see from using the standard preset and 55% quality? I'm essentially doing what this guy is doing, but I'd like to keep my files under 9GB (including the DTS or AC3 track passed ...

Re: What devices can handle encodes larger than 4GB

Western Digital HD Live will playback 1080p with files at any size (it can use any FAT or NTSC USB drives or, with a WAP, access wirelessly any network share). A lot of users play raw (20-30GB) Blu-ray rips with it.

Any reason not to use passthrough for WDTV Live?

The new Handbrake has been superb at encoding MKV files for me to use on my Western Digital HD Live, but for now I've been using the "hybrid" audio where my first track is automatic AAC, and the second is the AC3/DTS passthrough (depending on what the movie has). As nearly all my movies ar...
