Re: How To Get HB With FDK-AAC + 10-Bit x265 v2.3 (Windows)
This isn't for the feint of heart, but not too difficult, either. Computer is Windows 10 x64. I installed VirtualBox and an Ubuntu 16.04 LTS guest. Directions for HB 1.0.7 worked great. I used all the defaults for VirtualBox and Ubuntu. 1GB RAM and 10 GB storage was barely enough. When I was done, U...

Re: Handbrake won't open on Windows 10
Windows 10 x64 Creators Update works fine with 1.0.7 x64. Probably not a problem with Handbrake, but something else on your computer.

Re: AAC (avodec) low bitrate bad timbre
"AAC (avcodec) is a crap encoder" sounds like a pretty accurate diagnosis. For completeness, here is the requested log, in the hopes that a "not crappy" solution is available. HandBrake 1.0.7 (2017040900) - 64bit OS: Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.15063.0 - 64bit CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM...

AAC (avodec) low bitrate bad timbre
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: Transcoding a bunch of files with the intent to reduce disk space usage. Target container is MP4 or MKV. I'm happy with my video settings. For audio, using AAC (avcodec). I noticed that 96 kbps Stereo is about as low a bitrate wi...

Re: Anamorphic - Custom
I miss Custom. Every once in a while, I come across source files with the wrong aspect ratio. I used to be able to fix it with Handbrake. Now I have to use separate software to fix it either before or after transcoding.

Re: force display aspect ratio to always be 16:9 no black bars
Is there a way to go into an MP4 and change its DAR without re-encoding ? Try My MP4Box GUI http://www.videohelp.com/software/My-MP4Box-GUI . Supports a couple of different formats and fast to use once you figure out the work flow. I end up having to do math to figure out the scaling factor to get ...

Re: Missing features on Windows?
Don't take this the wrong way, but it's a little arrogant to assume that all Windows users want to discover and use a 3rd-party metadata tool than to use a built-in editor. It's kind of dumb, too, to maintain different code bases for different architectures, when it's probably less effort to leave t...

Re: Can't fix wrong aspect ratio in 1.0
Here's an example from 0.10.5 to demonstrate the feature that was removed in the 1.0 release. The picture setup looks like this in 0.10.5. http://imgur.com/a/of8gd This source video had a banner on the bottom and padding on the right. I had to use manual cropping to get rid of both. I set Modulus = ...

Can't fix wrong aspect ratio in 1.0
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: Installed Handbrake 1.0 on Windows 10 x64. I have a video that I'm trying to transcode with x265 to reduce its size. The source aspect ratio is wrong. I was able to fix the display aspect ratio in 0.10.5 and earlier versions, but...

Re: Changing Aspect Ratio
Yes it would be nice if you posted your log files. I have reported similar issues, but did not have any examples on-hand to post. I have used other software to losslessly change the aspect ratio before transcoding with Handbrake. If the source is AVC, I have used YAMB (http://yamb.unite-video.com/do...

Re: Handbraking and those vertical bars
Something happened in the 10.x series on Windows. I used to be able to change the display aspect ratio in Handbrake in times where I don't want to encode more resolution than the source, but want to fix an incorrect aspect ratio. But either it stopped working right, or I don't understand the changes...

Case Insensitivity
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: Windows filenames are not case sensitivie, but Handbrake assumes they are. For example HANDBRAKE.MP4 and handbrake.mp4 are the same file in Windows. I have it set to Automatically name output files. Default Path is {source_path} ...

Re: Can't change aspect 0.10.3
Yes I need to transcode. Need to reduce space, so converting to x265 HEVC. Was using 0.10.something and transcoding to x264 AVC. Sometimes I needed to change the aspect ratio and it worked correctly. Switched to 0.10.3 to get x265 1.8 and switch my process from x264 to x265. No matter which codec, 0...

Can't change aspect 0.10.3
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: Using HandBrake 0.10.3 x64 on Windows 10 x64. Trying to transcode a video that has the wrong aspect ratio. The source video is 640 x 480. In VLC, I have to force 16:9 aspect ratio to display correctly. In prior versions of HandBr...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.9 Discussion
I was using 0.9.8 happily and recently updated to the updated 0.9.9-1. There's so many things that don't seem to be working right that I just went back to 0.9.8. I'm a novice at video encoding, so I don't feel comfortable filing bug reports, but hopefully someone can confirm some of these issues. I'...
