You're basically screwed because of the nature of sports and the ATV fps limits :/

Re: Is Apple Universal Preset best for...

They're in the preset, so you can check on this yourself, but the Universal preset is best when you're trying to get maximum quality yet compatible with modern Apple devices. The maximum resolution is the maximum resolution supported by the iPod/iPhone, which is much larger than its screen size. Thi...

for people watching this thread -- please note http://code.google.com/p/videoengine/ is the place to visit for updates and information now. I just posted an extremely updated version of the code that used to be here, which has much less potential bugs and includes full tagging support.

Re: ATV 2.x Advanced Settings (All Sources)

Using dynaflash's advanced string, I have been able to get atv-playable encodes of both standard DVD titles and HDTV streams with AAC/AC3 audio. I've done this with both CQ of 60-62%, and ABR settings as well. (I usually use ABR of 3000 for DVD and 3800 for HD to control file size.) HDTV sources we...

Erm I stopped following your post after a bit, but the best option is to re-rip the DVD with a real ripper that isn't free and can deal with the more complicated protection schemes studios use.

Re: Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can explain how i can get Handbrake to accept an Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) file as the source? I've had no issues using MPG, DV, MP4 etc as the source file, however Handbrake won't recognise AIC as a valid source. Is there a way to get this to work? Or is there a ...

Re: Subler (like Muxo, maybe better?)

Does anyone have issues playing back films with Subs after tagging them with MetaX? they just freeze up then QT crashes on me :? The underlying problem is AtomicParsley, it does something odd with the tags when it rewrites them. The good news is, rewriting the file with another utility (say, mp4fil...

dumpster, which requires some knowledge and careful editing...if you still have the original SRT just delete and readd, there's no negative effect

Re: Soft Subtitles being looked at by eddyg

In my very humble opinion, you're better off dealing with this in a way that allows you to mess with it more if the size is too small, or the subtitles aren't synched properly, or the subtitles are non-UTF8 and crashing QuickTime, etc. Subler very ably handles all these thanks to it's character pars...

For streaming? I'd pick something along the lines of an iPod preset then, which will keep the bitrate low. It depends on how much quality and time buffering your users will allow.

Re: Enhancement Request Re. Non-DVD Files

Now that Handbrake supports working with files other than DVD, the time may be ripe to ask for the following new features for .m4v output: a) add/delete a chapter track, edit chapter markers. b) add/delete one or more soft subtitle tracks, possibly incorporating Muxo functionality. Apps such as Jub...

hi, I'm having a really strange issue with handbrake currently. I tried to convert an .avi file (xvid, ac3). Re: MKV to M4V/MP4 for subtitled videos

So a while back I had a problem of converting mkv's with subtitles (like anime movies and the like) to mp4/m4v to use with AppleTV. I finally managed to solve my problem in sort of a roundabout way for all those who might have this same problem. I used mkv2vob to turn the mkv into a mp4 (note that ...
