If the developers don't want to implement something, who are you (or we) to say anything different? The code is there, if we want it we can either a) code it ourselves, or b) find someone else who can.

I'm sorry, that last post has me completely confused... are you demanding turbo264 support, or against adding it because you spent the first half of it praising the device (based on what amounts to a press release no less), and then totally trash it at the end... IMO, this thread is a classic exampl...

I nominate this thread for the strangest logic I've seen on this board in a long long time. Try as you might, I don't think you're ever going to convince this guy that what he is doing is entirely pointless and counterintuitive.

It will passthru fine, because its just a stereo signal (that has extra information for DPL2 decoders).

DPL2 is simply surround sound matrixed into two channel audio. It's not discrete sound like you would find with Dolby Digital 5.1/AAC 5.1 soundtracks. To quicktime and any other device without a DPL2 decoder, it will look like a stereo soundtrack. The soundtrack output from VH is simply stereo 2.0. ...

My current plan is to encode at the highest settings for iPhone (I can post the CLI string I use later) and use the file for playback on AppleTV. This will allow the majority of my DVD collection to be available anywhere (on the iPhone or multiple AppleTV units around the house). If I want the highe...

What do you mean by 'lower the bitrate to maximum file size'? Also - I've noticed with all the settings I've tried, there always seems to be bars on the left and right - until I double click and zoom in on the iphone. Is there a way of 'natively' filling the whole screen without having to 'zoom'? B...

If all you are looking to play it back on is an iPhone, chose the 480x width and lower the bitrate to maximize file size. As long as you don't go too crazy, you won't be able to tell the difference.

No I'm using the x264b30 command line flag, which is the same as selecting x264 (h.264 iPod) in the GUI interface. It's still H264, but using the iPod-compatible level 3.

I still need to do some testing, but I've succesfully copied over (using iTunes) and played videos with various resolutions (all w/ 720 width) with no problems @ 1500kbps and x264 level 3.0. I plan on doing some test encodes this weekend to see exactly what the iPhone will and will not accept.

You could convert it using another tool, but I would just re-encode it. It'll take just about the same amount of time, and the quality would be better with a fresh encode.

Just for reference, the iPhone can handle 720-width files created using H.264 without any problems.

Can't remember, but I'm pretty sure Quicktime doesn't like the AC3 audio format natively. Not sure if that is all of your problem, but it's probably a good place to start.

How does one load content onto an iPhone - is it through iTunes? Either way, is this restriction not present, despite Apple's claim? Rodney rhester: as of the iTunes 7.3 update, you can now load 720 x xxx (I successfully loaded up a 720 x 304 mp4) mp4 video, like in earlier iTunes. However x264 sti...

I've been using this CLI syntax to create 720-wide video files for AppleTV and the iPhone. According to jbrjake in this thread, it is the equivalent of the HB-iPod preset in the GUI. Works very well for me, and provides DVD support on both devices. ./HandBrakeCLI -i DVD -o ~/Movies/movie.mp4 -B 160 ...

I know some people that are using 1.2.3 to do just this (convert mkv to mp4 for appletv). It may not work with all of them as I haven't really played around with it myself.

Agreed... the real reason that the majority of DTS soundtracks sound "better" to people is because the mix was sweetened during mastering. Unless you have a full-bitrate DTS track (which was rare), they were really pretty even.

Sort of, but not really, I mean, we have plenty of other stuff to do on HB without a total gui rewrite. But, it will be interesting to see what they give us in the next xcode. Problem is, we want to stay tiger compatible, so it is not like we will be using every shiny new bell and whistle anyway. A...
