You definitely beat me, congrats!

I'll take a look at the code and if it hasn't already been done, do the work to hook it up in the OS X UI tonight. :)

5.1 AAC Bitrate Inaccurate

One thing I noticed with 5.1 AAC support: The bitrate selector only allows you to select the bitrate based on what the bitrate for stereo channels would be. So, when selecting 160Kbps or up, you aren't getting anything close to 160Kbps, and instead getting around 440-460Kbps. Handbrake on OS X shoul...

Some worse news about 5.1... iTunes ignores tags in m4vs/mp4s with 5.1 surround in it. So while iTunes will stream them to the Apple TV no sweat, you can't get cover art or the like.

Re: So far no 5.1

I ripped a chapter using the convert to 5.1 from the latest builds. My receiver says it's only getting stereo. The file itself says it has 6 channels in it though. Bummer. Wonder if there is some magic bitrate setting that will get it to work. I'll mess around with it some more tomorrow. Same here,...

jbrjake asked that I look into why subtitles lack color as well, and so I figured I would post my finding here for posterity... even though I might get around to fixing it. Since Handbrake uses YUV420p colorspaces for all work, in order to keep the work all in one colorspace, the subtitles also need...

When getting info on the movie in iTunes, it won't have an artwork tab?

I haven't tried adding artwork to a .mov file before, but if you add the artwork to it in iTunes (and it sticks), it should display on the Apple TV.

The device is turning out to be a bit better than I expected. IMO.

Well, an HB user over on the irc channel was good enought to run some tests for us with his appleTV he just got! No uuid issues? Nope I am eager to know what HB video settings (esp. x264) are confirmed to work on the AppleTV, as well. x264 Main *or* Baseline work Using 5.1 AAC, it plays, so even if...

Well, that is why I asked if this was going to get commited to a branch. Usually easier to muck around with unstable changes and share them that way without destabilizing the trunk too much. :) One thing I noticed with mp4box is that it creates text tracks slightly differently, and the sub-type isn'...

Btw, mp4v2 has code to manage track references already (albeit not 'chap' chapter ones, though they're easily added). Take a look at the AddTrackReference function (and similar) in mp4file.cpp. I've added 'chap' to mp4v2 as part of the work I'm doing. Nevermind then. :) Is there a branch that you w...

I am likely spending the next couple of days on subtitle work, and probably the 'tref' atom work since I have code stuck in my brain for that.

Re: DVD chapters

Obviously it reads the chapter times for chapter selections. Thanks for putting me straight Cyander. Is this being looked at in the Dev forums or just here? cant find any reference to it, but wandered if there more people to pool resources. Since I am already working on some improvements to the sub...

Re: Good work

Does MF/HB have a way of reading dvd ifo info for chapter markers. I found a couple of scripts that do this but thats all. Handbrake already reads the information for chapter breaks, but I am not familiar with the format enough to say if information like the chapter title is encoded on the DVD itse...

I mean it wouldn't be polite to just request and tap my foot impatiently when I /know/ what needs to be done, and how to do it. :)

I already have the scaling algorithm planned out, I just need a way to preview it so people aren't having to spew gobs of sample encodes to get the right scale they want.

Interesting... iTunes didn't actually have the menu in 7.0.2, so it looks like they are turning on the iTunes support for chapter tracks. I noticed the photo track, and even mucked with it, coming to the same conclusion, but not seeing where Apple was planning on enabling it. Guess my question is no...

Chapter tracks aren't as ugly as it first appears. I have been trying to figure this out myself, and it is kinda frustrating because I am so close, yet so far from the goal. For the .m4v files iTMS sells, the chapter tracks are MPEG-4 Timed Text tracks. You can actually extract the raw track using m...

Subtitle Overlay Improvements

So, I am ripping a few DVDs that I prefer having subtitles with... all imported films. I am being driven nuts by how DVD subtitle overlays are so variable from disc to disc in both position and size. Oh, and the fixed 20 pixel margin used by HB for cropping. ;) So, instead of coming in, whining on t...

Re: Apple TV Support

There's not even a decrypter yet for Macs so all content would be pirated off the net. I don't think there's even an encoding workflow for OS X for dealing with that content. Like...an evo demuxer. Or utilities for working with DTSHD or DD+ audio. Plus, QuickTime doesn't support AVC High Profile, s...
