Re: VFR questions

I have had a chance to try it, and at least in the case of Ghost in the Shell, produces something virtually identical to the DVD. Deinterlacing turned off and I am not getting artifacts. I have yet to try the other series like Vandread and Full Metal Panic though. FMP is a known problem child (30 fp...

Re: VFR questions

Heh. Normally, asking for support (especially in the dev forum) for a new unreleased feature will get you in a heap of trouble.... but I think everyone has a soft spot for this one because it's so effin' cool. Effin' cool? That is all? This is practically a freakin' god-send! I like the idea of bei...

Here's a patch that makes chapters work better with the x264 encoder. There were two problems: (1) the new_chap flag was simply copied from the incoming buffer to the outgoing buffer (this was done in routine work_loop) but since the x264 encoder reorders & delays frames this would move the flag up...

Another thing to point out is that the incompatibility is in building on Leopard. If you build on Tiger, and then /run/ on Leopard, it works fine. Sooooo, it seems the best approach is stick to Tiger for building release builds for the time being until patches to ffmpeg/x264 are made.

Oh man, I finally get settled back in after a huge move... and someone finds the bug before me.... great catch ares01590. :) i don't think that's the problem. the code searches for an I-frame (which is the same as a keyframe, isn't it?) from the beginning of the cell that is marked as a chapter star...

It might be a bit. I am in the process of a move, so I am having to focus my energy on that. It is a bit of a surprise and a rush.

Honestly, you expected copying the contents of a disk image to a NAS folder to install a command-line program? Unbelievable. And now you can't find the tab in the middle of the window? A gold star for you, sir! I think the worst part is that unless the Mac GUI owner changed my UI layout, the checkb...

The problem with trying to add in this info for existing, already-ripped files is that the chapter marker positioning is frame-specific, and is rather complex in the way it is passed through HandBrake's decode / encode process. The output movie's frame sync is different from the source, so it's not...

Would this be built from an Intel Mac? If so, you can still produce universal binaries just fine, and build just fine.

Well I've got & encoded Children of Men Cyander, would it help if we posted our settings? If some of us can get them to work and some can't, maybe it has something to do with settings. eddyg, did you encode from the DVD or a ripped folder? Yes, it would. There was a bug I found earlier where the co...

I should have done more testing before I said anything about that iPod rip. It turns out that the sync is perfect when I play the videos in iTunes. The ten second mis-timing only happens on the iPod. It could very well be an iPod issue rather than an HB problem. I'll be at that Tango dance conventi...

Hi cyander, I'll test this t onight when I get home from work, but I think the builds where you CAN'T name the chapters work fine, the builds where you CAN name the chapters have the problem described. I converted Toy Story initially on the build where you couldn't name the chapters, and all chapte...

Unusual, I was seeing bugs like this when I was working on it, but I could swear I nailed them down before the commit. One was exactly as described here, oddly, and I did get it nailed down and fixed, but this sounds like the exact same thing... Worst part is that the DVDs you list I don't actually ...

The Handbrake pipeline is split like so: Read DVD -> Decode MPEG-2 -> A/V Sync frames to new framerate -> Render subtitles/resize/deinterlace -> Encode -> Mux. Sounds like what you would need to do is write your own encoder and muxer component. The encoder would just be a pass-through, so that would...

2. U and V is already combined when I get the image, so I can't do anything useful there. My understanding of YUV (which is limited to say the least) is that you can quite easily calculate it from the RGB value. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YUV You could probably adjust the maths in any deinter...

The problem isn't that data isn't available on when chapter breaks /should/ be... they are written right on the DVD. The problem is that when you rip, you change the rules of the game. It isn't like ripping audio and ID3 tags, since a track is a track is a track. With a ripped DVD, you have to worry...

Next release as in, it's in svn now. There was just no time to thoroughly test its integration before 0.8.5b1 I think the main concern was stability. I did kinda touch every part of the rendering pipeline with new code, and modify the UI as well as the CLI. It may not have been a big patch, but it ...

Re: Chapter Addition to Previously Converted DVD's

It's definantly a feature I would like rather than reconverting 50 DVD's. I'm with Gyroxide: this is an ardently awaited feature! There are really only two options (that are technically feasible): - Use Metadata Hootenany to add the chapters after ripping. The result is very close to what 0.8.5b1 o...

I have been using it for a couple weeks, so I hope I have all the major issues ironed out.

Just beware that because of how DVDs are authored, Metadata Hootenany /will/ do the work, but the sync will be off (but consistent with 0.8.5b1). DVDs author chapter breaks in a somewhat funky manner, and there has been work done after b1 went out to address this. So, if you don't mind chapter break...

So, who gets to break the bad news?

While 0.8.5b1 has chapter support (which is huge), the next release is the one that has near-perfect chapter sync (within a frame or so, versus about 16 frames now), and support for entering chapter titles.

No problem, I have just been working late this last week, so I haven't had time to do the expensive merging of NIBs myself.
