Re: AC3 using multiple tools

mine works and i did not have to open the ATV, and i can use the original AC3 stream from my original DVD. i dont understand why some are pursuing this, i believe it is easier to hack the atv to do passthrough then to encode 100+ movies with this process... I have my appletv hacked and ATVFiles up ...

I have not yet tried this... how does it work? Do I have to input all the information manually or do I just give it a link to the movie page on IMDB/OtherMovieSite ? _ Ideally... sometime in the future it would be awesome to just give handbrake an IMDB link to the movie you are just about to rip and...

I have a QNAP NAS 1.5 TG of storage.
My appleTV connects to this directly over ethernet after some slight modification. My appleTV itself has a 160GB drive installed. More than enough storage for all my stuff.

I've installed Perian and The ATVFiles plugin on my AppleTV.
With those installed your DPL II 192kbps files play fine (although the files still do not sync via iTunes)... but not everyone is going to hack open the appleTV... so not really a good sollution. :D

The file I mean is 5_1_DOLBY_dpl2_192kbps.m4v, which is my Dolby Pro Logic II file (created here with a local dev copy of Handbrake). Does this play with separate left and right surround on your amp? Does it sync with your Apple TV? Ya, thats the one I tried. It does not sync with the appleTV. My r...

I downloaded the clip called dts_diatonis_io_afos. which one did you try? Same one here. Maurj: That file does not want to sync with the appleTV. It tells me that it is not a file that the appleTV can play... (which is of course rubish, cause I have perian / a52 installed). PLII = 5.0? Would it be ...

Re: "Ten Myths" article

I downloaded the dts sample provided as a link in that article and played it through my atv which is attached via optical to my DTS capable receiver. No Joy :( I'm not sure I buy every thing this guy has said, but he does make a good argument for the possible reasons Apple has stuck with DPL for no...

My appleTV seams to play all my old handbrake rips - waiting on the new 5.1 support to see if it plays correctly.... seams to play the trailers right.

They might be holding off on a definite answer because they want it to be a big announcement, maybe at NAB next month. "Now on Apple TV; HD Movies, true surround sound, and closed captioning.” Seeing as they are shipping now, I am sure a lot of people will have taken these things apart and will kno...

AppleTV Alternatives.... if it sucks

So, I think I will be waiting it out and seeing if the appleTV sucks as much as I suspect it will (no AC3 sound). As far as I understand it Quicktime mixes down AAC 5.1 to stereo when you output to your awesome 5.1 system, so I can only assume the appleTV will do the same, as it is based on Quicktim...
