Project: Converting MacMini into AppleTV-HD

So, I've had this idea of converting a MacMini into a AppleTVHD. Something that can: 1. play high profile x.264 .mkv files @ hd resolution 2. execute a handbrake encode script upon dvd detection. Questions for the tech-savvy Handbrake community : 1 . MacMini has no optical out port - need Griffin Fi...

Best Setting for HACKED appleTV

I am curious what everyone who is encoding for their hacked (Perian / ATVFiles) appleTV's are using for encoding settings? I am currently using: mkv / 2 Pass + Turbo / AC3 Passthrough / 2500 kbps keyint=300:keyint-min=30:bframes=6:ref=3:mixed-refs=1:subq=5:me=umh:no-fast-pskip=1:trellis=2 Which I us...

Why is audio sync even a problem? Surley you dont have to do anything to the Audio at all. After all, a 2h12 movie at 29.97 is still a 2h12 movie even at 24fps. The audio can just stay the same.... unless each frame is linked a specific time in the audio track for some reason. I am not sure how hand...

Re: Thanks but..

My question was really geared at how to preserve the dolby digital using handbrake and an MP4, and that's not possible due to the limitation in MP4, is what you guys are saying. Well if you don't have an appleTV then you are in luck. If your netgear can play .mkv (Matroska) - the next handbake will...

Chapters don't seem to be working in HB right now with .mkv (build 790)

actually that would degrade your image considerably. 29.97fps normally is converted from a film source (as most things are shot on film). To deinterlace 29.97 correctly you will need to do something called a reverse 3:2 pulldown. this would convert it to 24fps and it would then have no fields. howev...

yeah, this would be a neat feature. normally if i encode at night and want my computer to shutdown i just run:
shutdown -h +<padded encode time here in minutes>
in the command line. your option would be much better.

i'm using MacGui. Yeah i know the SVN builds are "use at your own risk". But I still thought someone would like to know about it  Step-by-step in bug reproduction: 1. After inserting DVD, choose video options (or pick a preset). 2. Go to advanced tab and pick some options. 3. Go back to video ...

Reporting:

• If I have an x264 string in the advanced tab, changing to the video tab will clear it. Changing to Audio / Chapter tabs from the advanced tab still works fine.

RAM

Does the amount of RAM you have in your machine make a difference to handbrake encodes in terms of speed?

file format: mov

hi, I would really love to see .mov file format in HandBrake. For two very good reasons: • There is no AC-3 pass through in MP4. • There is no anamorphic or b-frames in AVI. I would really love to have the best of both worlds and I *think* that it is possible inside the .mov wrapper. Thanks for list...

handbrake uses open source quicktime library's. this way its possible to encode movies on a linux machine... which does not have quicktime.

Anamorphic option moved to the Advanced Tab

Could we move the Anamorphic option to the Advanced Tab?

This way we can have a preset for m4v with anamorphic and avi without, instead of a preference making all encodes anamorphic automagically?

Merci

Can't agree more. You are doing a FANTASTIC job. Handbrake is the easiest DVD-MP4 program I have used by far. Bring on the advanced tab - if people don't want advanced option they should not play with an advanced tab. I have been a handbrake user for 2 years. I can see the quality of the dvd's i rip...
