Re: MacGui: Individual Encode Activity Logs

How much space can a log take up, though? They're only text files, storage creep couldn't be that bad.

About the patch, though, this is great! Thanks so much!

Save average encode speed in queue

Is there any way that, once a file has finished recording, the final average encode speed (in fps) for encodes could be saved in, say, the queue, or somewhere else? This would make benchmarking different x264 options much easier as well as generally help users find a balance between quality and spee...

Re: it says m4v instead of mp4

There's an option to make this not happen in the preferences pane, but really it shouldn't matter. In fact, the file will work better with any quicktime-based applications. If you insist on giving it the mp4 extension, though, just change "m4v" to "mp4" in the filename. Easy as pie.

Naming audio tracks after encode

The latest svn code introduces the ability for handbrake to name audio tracks according to their type (AC3, Stereo, Director's Commentary, etc.). Is there any way to apply such labels to audio tracks in already-encoded files? I'm not deeply attached to this feature, but it would be convenient, and I...

Re: Can Chapter Names be Changed After the Fact?

Dude, you know? I named the chapters before decoding with HB, but if I make a mistake and I see that mistake after the conversion, it's a little boring to do all that one more time (considering that I waste 2 hours decoding my DVD). It would be better if you tell me an option to edit the .m4v files...

I have tried fully deleting my hb-dev folder, checking out the svn code again, then running make, and I have the same results.

[svn 1833] no longer compiles with either "make" or "jam

As of svn 1833 I can no longer build handbrake. 1832 worked just fine. I am running OS X 10.5.5 and update the code through the terminal using "svn update." Running "make" produces the following error message at the end of the build: The following build commands failed: libhb: CompileC build/HandBra...

Re: ATV 2.x Advanced Settings (All Sources)

Well, I've found that I can fix this problem if I set Subpixel motion estimation to 5 (down from 6), but I dont know if there are any other negative effects in doing this because using 6 unlocks b-frame rate distortion. bframes=6:ref=6:mixed-refs=1:subq=5:me=umh:no-fast-pskip=1:trellis=1:direct=aut...

VLC 0.9.2 has been released!!!!!

According to VersionTracker, VLC 0.9.2 has been released. Looks like the videolan website is getting hammered, though, so downloading it seems to be a bit of a problem. As a result, I can't get my hands on the full changelog, but here's the beginning of it from the VT page: The 0.9 version of VLC me...

Re: [patch] x264 psyrdo .05

Any way to make that script work for the (old) mp4box mac binary available (needs to be run using the terminal)? Otherwise I could just encode two chapters and play all in quicktime like you do. Longer source = more tedious comparison, but it work still work.

Re: [patch] x264 psyrdo .05

As stated many times on doom9 by the author, psychovisual effects will almost always result in worse results when comparing one still frame to another but will invariably look better in motion. This is why SSIM is not a good indication of quality with such effects. Rodney Is there any easier/more e...

Re: [patch] x264 psyrdo .05

I find it really difficult to get to the exact same frame in vlc (maybe I just haven't looked hard enough), so I've been trying to get as close as possible. Point taken re motion. I'll go find a different source, maybe one with a still camera looking at a lot of trees or something.

Re: [patch] x264 psyrdo .05

I'm actually seeing next to no difference between my psyrdo and normal x264 encodes. If anything, using the lobby gunfight scene from The Matrix, the normal x264 is slightly (very very slightly) sharper. I'm using a patched (and plain) svn1569. I used the following settings: CRF 65% Anamorphic loose...

Re: [patch] x264 psyrdo .05

I'm compiling post-patch now. Reading through the linked thread, it would seem that using trellis=2 is now a good idea for all encodes with psyrdo, even CQ ones, which goes against the handbrake documentation ( http://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/x264Options ). When using psyrdo, should I consider the doc...

Could this mastering issue be some standard kind of thing in Europe/Region 2? Anyway, van says he's working on a patch for this, so we just have to be patient until he gets a chance to finish it.

[svn1566] Encode ends early when resuming from pause

I've had this happen to me a few times now (maybe three), where I've paused Handbrake for a while to watch a movie on my computer, and when I resume, it encodes for a minute or two, and then muxes and complete the encode as if it were finished, even though it's nowhere near done. I was just encoding...

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.

OK, here is what I am currently using. I am currently using post-snapshot code, so some of these features may not be available in .9.2 (and one is only available via a patch currently). Big difference is always using CRF=64 (except for concert DVDs... this high of a value typically results in a ver...

Yet in the advanced atv 2.0 settings thread, the first post says that cabac must be left on for those who participate. Can the atv then just not handle cabac on top of lots of other h264 settings?

Installing Perian on the AppleTV

What's the general consensus on installing perian on atvs? Is it a good idea, or would you rather have quicktime alone there? I know it allows quicktime to play high profile x264 files, which would allow for the use of b-pyramid frames, etc. on the atv.

Re: Anamorphic issue with AppleTV Preset

Oops, I guess I mis-remembered/read that last post of van's. I read/remembered it as dealing with the issues of overcropping frames so that too many dark preview frames didn't cause some of the actual image to be cropped out instead of just letterboxing. Sorry about this. We did start talking about ...
