Re: Episodes & Naming

I like Synology; I personally own 2 versions of their 8-bay server, my office has 2 8-bay servers, and a friend has an 8-bay and multiple 2-bay units. I use their media server software for DLNA, but Plex is also available for them. They run 24 hours a day, with typical (for me) uptimes measured in m...

Re: Compression Increasing Video Size

So, what did you change?

An activity log tells us what handbrake saw in your files, and what settings you asked it to apply. If you don't want to provide it for some reason, you could go back to doing things the way you did them "a few days ago" plus 1.

Re: Episodes & Naming

Most DLNA servers have to be forced to re-scan the data when you update a file. If it has a different name than the original, it will be picked up automagically, but the same name will retain the old metadata unless you hit it over the head with a clue bat.

Re: Episodes & Naming

MakeMKV doesn't do any compression, but handbrake works well with those MKV files as input. The issue with the subtitles being on by default is that many players take the first subtitle track that matches the current language selection, and play it. When you play the disk itself (or an ISO), the pla...

Re: Does MediaInfo provide enough info to duplicate HB settings?

Short answer: No Long answer: Many of the things in your example are not important enough to have GUI elements for good reason; tweaking them does little good, and most are defaults for the encoder anyway. If you're trying to get "better HDR on the Shield", you cannot tweak handbrake settings to do ...

Re: Episodes & Naming

You need to break the file apart on (usually) chapter boundaries. By forcing handbrake to act as a ripper (it is not), this will be slow. And ripping programs like MakeMKV may find individual episode files; I do not remember having to manually split the episodes out on Jag, but it's been several yea...

Re: Handbrake dubbing on my Mac just slowed WAY down

My experience: Running multiple copies of MakeMKV (usually 2 because I have 2 internal drives) WHILE running handbrake encodes does not have a significant affect on handbrake's speed.

MakeMKV itself is not a high-CPU-usage program, and handbrake is not a high-I/O-usage program. They get along fine.

Re: Best way to rip multi-chapter content?

Yes, that is the suggestion. MakeMKV and similar ripping programs are better at handling issues with the disk, and cover a lot more copy protection schemes than handbrake+extras does. They are also much faster at getting the content off the disk, because they're not restricted by how fast the conten...

Without a log, we can't figure out how to fix it, either. Lots of things affect the maximum available size of a video, including what you allow for a maximum level.

Re: Best way to rip multi-chapter content?

First comment would be, why are you trying to rip with handbrake? Even if you've installed the unsupported 3rd-party library to force it to work, it's fraught with hidden (and some not-so-hidden) issues. Handbrake handles chapters just fine. Some players, not so much. You might try changing your out...

Re: H.265 10-bit RF16 Slow is not giving sufficient quality

I use command line encoding, but the settings are based on an older "HQ" preset from the GUI. No 10-bit stuff for me. But, I'm also known as a bit of a curmudgeon, in that I feel if I'm checking a movie for minor encoding artifacts, I'm obviously bored with the actual content, so why not move on to ...

Re: H.265 10-bit RF16 Slow is not giving sufficient quality

The only way to get "no difference" is to not re-encode. The video was already encoded once going to the BD; you cannot get back what was lost in that encode. You might try doing the encodes in x264 rather than x265; the benefits of h265 encoding are small at 1080p or less, unless you're shooting fo...

There have been some issues with the server for the nightlies from what I read over on github, "to be resolved shortly". The developers would have more information on that than me.

The nightly build version you have has some issues that were fixed more recently. This topic was about the same thing; nightly builds after August 5th should incorporate the fix.

Are you trying to encode it while it is downloaded, or are the "next files" already local?

Wild ass guess, you need to adjust some settings or chose the proper preset.

More detail requires more detail, like the log that shows us what handbrake saw when you loaded the source.

Yes, I probably won't see EVERYTHING at 70TB, but I have watched over half of the 40TB on it now. Much of it multiple times.

I'm actually LESS likely to watch MOVIES (I buy those for others to watch).

And, so far, nothing has killed Curiosity.

Re: Curiosity

I use it to delay increasing the size of the NAS as long as possible. I have maybe 18-24 months left on the 70TB NAS (55% full right now), after filling a 28TB in 3 years. Maybe by then I can replace the current 10TB drives with 20's at a reasonable price. This assumes I continue to resist the tempt...

Easiest would be a subtitle editor. Handbrake itself won't do this.

Re: AAC 640kbps

It would be MUCH simpler to make wild-ass guesses at what your issue is if we had activity logs to show us what your source is, what version handbrake you're using, and what operating system you're on.

Are you looking to get 640kbps per channel? Or overall 640kbps for a multi-channel track?

Re: Not ripping all of the DVD contents

Handbrake is not a disk ripper. Therefore, it does not give good diagnostics when the unsupported 3rd-party library you added to force it to rip disks encounters read errors. Programs that are intended for ripping, like MakeMKV, at least give you better diagnostic; handbrake just assumes the title e...

Re: Keep source dimensions by default

Depending on the preset you select, there might be maximum dimensions set. For example, if the preset has "1080" in the name, the output will have a maximum of 1080 pixels high, while "480" would limit it to 480 pixels high. If the preset does not have a maximum resolution included, it won't change ...

Re: How to select audio&subtitles passthrough by default for all tracks?

Modify the defaults (there is a button on the audio and subtitle buttons to set defaults) to select both (any) and (unknown) language types, add all matching tracks, and then save a new preset using those defaults.

When that preset is active, all tracks should be selected.
