Re: Variable Frame rate changes video speed?

The frame rate of the source seems to be off: [19:52:32] sync: expecting 188001 video frames ... [20:44:55] sync: got 193871 frames, 188001 expected The expected value is calculated from the times given in the file, but the frame count is actual frames found. I'm no expert, but it would seem there a...

Re: some features i miss in this app

The problem I've seen with ASS/SSA subtitles is that they often aren't JUST the subtitle text - I found a better fansub for one of the sets I imported from Japan recently, and the stylized text used requires that 8-12 true type font files also be present. MUXed into the MKV file, that's taken care o...

Re: What happens if I crop too much?

Unless you tell it otherwise, VLC will open a 720x470 display window, and the pixels will map 1 to 1 within it. The default behavior is to maintain the aspect ratio specified in the file, even when scaling, but you can tell it to "fill" an arbitrary display window size. Stand-alone players call this...

Re: Handbrake Settings for Dummies?

There are literally thousands of pages of documentation out there covering what you're asking for. The key is, how much do you REALLY want or need to know? Very basic: CODEC = how the video is encoded. h.264 and h.265 are some of the standard CODECs for video nowadays, but there are others, like VP8...

Re: What happens if I crop too much?

"How do players scale generally" is hard to answer without knowing the set of players to average the results of... In the case of something like VLC, it will display the video the video at 720x(480 minus the cropped pixels), or a multiple thereof. The hardware players I have would expand the width o...

Re: What tools for troubleshooting video?

Thanks, I'll look into those. Unfortunately, I don't think they would have helped a lot in what got me searching for tools... For what it is worth, I found the answer this time by using a methodology used by some to find out what titles are "correct" on the recent trend of DVD and BD authors to put ...

What tools for troubleshooting video?

Occasionally, I find a "troublesome" file that I'd like to check to see whether it's a problem with the video or the player. I usually just try it in different players (starting with VLC) to see whether it is actually playable, but that doesn't give me a lot of details. And, sometimes, it gives me v...

Conveniently, until you provide a log to tell us what is going on (see that red box above?), we can totally relate to the "have no idea what is going on" part.

The other probable cause is that the user that handbrake is running as does not have permission to write to that directory.

Re: dvd extentions

The default Android player can play files with the .m4v extension, but it cannot play all files that are "mp4 compatible". The Android presets seem to work just fine, but the "normal" preset allows things that garner the "cannot be played" error. I used to think it was tied to the frame rate, but th...

Re: Only encodes first 4:56min of video

You might do a google search for "mkvtoolnix". I ran some tests last month, and the merge function seemed to handle converting AVI files to MKV well enough. But, I didn't have any oversized AVI files to test with.

Re: Emerson tv, usb video coversion problems.

Here is something to test... take an MP4 file, and rename it to have "avi" as its extension. See if it plays. There are a lot of devices out there that are not as restricted as their documentation says. I've had TVs play MKV files that were named AVI, even though they did not list MKV support. Note ...

UTF-8 should work in most cases, even if the file is a variation of the ISO-8859 family. Have you tried that?

Re: Only encodes first 4:56min of video

AVI files larger than 4GB are non-standard, and handbrake will not read them. Converting them to something else is the only choice.

Re: Affecting Size of Subtitles Created from SRT File

Text subtitles that aren't burned in are saved as text subtitles in the output. There are some weird things about text subtitles that John has mentioned over time, but I'm not certain of them. I think one of them was that the only type of subtitles that can be imported as a file (rather than having ...

Re: Affecting Size of Subtitles Created from SRT File

This question has come up before, and, as I recall, there are no default size/location/typeface options within Handbrake. Internally, Handbrake uses a common format for text-based subtitles, so SRT subtitle files aren't limited to "just" SRT rendering options. John has stated that font size/typeface...

Re: HandBrake CLI - only first subtitle forced regardless of option string

Definitely looks like an oversight, since the CLI documentation does show the same syntax. Question: Are you sure that there are distinct, flagged-as-forced subtitles in the tracks to begin with? For most disk that I have encountered where there are two tracks for each language, ONE of them carries ...

Re: Avi to MP4 only works for 4 minutes then finishes

Unfortunately, since the software here won't search for 3-character words like "AVI", you can't find the many instances where non-standard AVI files fail, but simply converting them to MKV files by using free tools like mkvtoolnix makes them usable....

As long as you're happy with the results, that's all that counts. HandbrakeCLI queue is called "batch file". They're really much simpler than the queue files within the GUI version. Sample: title Bleach E330 & "C:\Program Files\Handbrake\HandBrakeCLI.exe" -i "Z:\Bleach\Bleach E330.mkv" -t 1 -o "V:\A...
