Re: Quicksync on Skylake

Yes it runs headless on Windows 10 as long as the iGPU is enabled with driver installed.

This is a big deal after Skylake soon, assuming there are updates required. Without fast updates there is no chance for a useful test.

Re: [InProgress] Intel QSV support for H265?

Don't you get test hardware from Intel as a developer in advance or is it just too much work? I mean Intel is using Handbrake for public presentations sometimes.

I have Winodws 7 and HD4600 as a secondary GPU. I don't use Virtu crap, I prefer the fake display method instead.

This is a non public driver by the looks of it.

Re: Quicksync doesn't work with newest drivers

Here is a Balanced run. Even the best speed preset is running with TU2 at the moment. TU4 is almost twice as fast as TU2 for this video sample. HandBrake svn6747 (Nightly Build) - 64bit Version OS: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 - 64bit CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670 CPU @ 3.40GHz Ram:...

Re: Quicksync doesn't work with newest drivers

It works but I see another problem. QSV Preset Balanced and Quality doesn't make a difference, both are using TU2. In the past Balanced did use TU4 afaik. Because of that it's much slower than usual.

Re: Quality Comparison - QSV vs Software Encode

Keep in mind that Quicksync differs from generation to generation. Ivy bridge image quality is inferior to Haswell because many features like lookahead, Intelligent Constant Quality etc are missing. You could at least try Intels default gop settings, this should give you a better quality. x264 very ...

Re: Better Quicksync defaults

My favoured (quality oriented) settings in Handbrake on my Haswell looks like this lookahead=1:gop-ref-dist=0:gop-pic-size=0:target-usage=4:lookahead-depth=40:num-ref-frame=0 And importantly Constant quality bitrate mode. It's much better than VBR on Haswell. I also use High H264 profile in Handbrak...

On Windows 8 Handbrake doesn't need an active monitor. Windows 7 does not support it.

Re: QuickSync quality/default seetings

MBBRC is a recommendation for IVB as well, it isn't Haswell only. On my IVB it was a good help for VBR bitrate mode. It might be enabled on default in Handbrake, haven't checked this for a while.

Re: QuickSync quality/default seetings

TU1+ Trellis can be better sometimes but it is mixed. Sometimes it isn't or it's even worse. Because the speed is drastically worse I wouldn't recommend it. I don't know what video material you have, you could make 2-3 tests on your own. Important is you are using default gops. Not sure if mbbrc is ...
