Re: Bottleneck Question

This article says that GPU encoding will come at the expense of larger files and lower quality. That sounds crazy to me (I would think that Handbrake will apply the same encoding algorithm regardless of what processes it and no matter how long it takes), but again, if someone would confirm I would ...

Re: Question regarding CRF

In short, if you start with a higher resolution, higher quality source, you can get away with a bit more compression.

When your dealing with lower resolution, low quality sources you typically can't be as aggressive with the quality slider.

Re: All video and audio cutting out

What your describing is typically a hardware issue. - Overheating is the most common cause - Bad Memory (Run Memtest86 to test memory stability) - Unstable Overclock - Bad Power supply. Worth getting something like HWMonitor to keep an eye on the system. Occasionally it can be a driver related issue...

Re: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5500 XT OC

Nope. Once a recent driver is installed, it should work (assuming AMD are not shipping drivers without VCE support, or broken VCE support which they have done historically)

Re: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5500 XT OC

Is this all correct or do i have to untick "Allow Quicksync Encoders" and just leave "Allow AMD VCE Encoders" ticked Nope your fine. If you don't see the VCE encoders showing in the video encoder dropdown on the video tab then it could simply be an incompatibility with your system. It could be rela...

Re: Will not handle folders.

When you added all to the queue, it tried to do a drive space check on your D:\ drive
That drive was reported as being unavailable which caused a failure.

Do you have a d drive? Is a HDD or network drive?

Re: Handbrake and the bazillion temp files

It's required for the preview features to work. Beyond the UI display there is some analysis of the source that also occurs so it's not optional. With high res sources x a large number of sources will cause this as you see. We have a "work in progress" ticket right now to add compression to the temp...

It's the log of a preview, not the actual encode. We'd need the log of a failed encode.

MakeMKV retains chapters, as does HandBrake if it's enabled on the chapters tab.

Re: Handbreak not reading disks from laptop dvd drive or from external Blu-ray drive.

The page in question is a is basically a scam to get you to buy a product. There are thousands of these pages from thousands of vendors selling the same or very similar software. Often these software packages are just front-ends to ffmpeg and they are violating the open source GPL license in many in...

Re: DataBase for Benchmarks?

@WarthogARJ if you won't take it from others users, take it from a developer. CUDA and NVEnc are not the same thing. NVEnc is dedicated hardware asic's that happen to be on the same die as the GPU. As such, there is very little performance differences between cards in a series. HandBrake does not su...

Re: Windows 10 entirely freezes when encoding

12 and 5V rails are both a fair bit outside the ATX spec but it could just be a bad reading from the motherboard. it's the sort of thing you'd need a good multi-meter and oscilloscope to confirm unfortunately. If you happen to have another supply to hand, it's maybe worth testing if that's something...

Re: Invitation to a community Discord server

While I appreciate the enthusiasm, I'd rather you didn't use the HandBrake name as channel like this. It really needs to be clear that this is an unofficial channel that's not affiliated with the project. Even on this forum, some people don't realise that they are talking to other community members ...

Re: Windows 10 entirely freezes when encoding

Mpeg2 is much much lighter on the CPU.

Also, check your temps anyway. Water cooling is great but with time can have issues.
Same with the PSU, it's not necessarily an amount of power, but the quality of power and the stability of the power rails.

Re: Windows 10 entirely freezes when encoding

System freezes are one of a couple possibilities and are not uncommon when running demanding apps like HandBrake. 1. CPU Temperatures getting too high. Usually modern chips throttle but I'm not sure how the older FX series behaves. Worth monitoring. 2. Unstable power resulting in system crashes. Use...

Looks like a colourspace conversion issue of some kind. Are you able to cut a short sample of the source that you could share so this could be traced in code?

Re: Upgrading from Version 1.0.7 to 1.2.2 disables intel quick sync

Folks, please be aware that installing the SDK does NOT necessarily enable QuickSync. What I suspect is happening is you are using their software encoder that runs on the CPU that is used for developer testing. This is a really basic encoder (so probably appears to be quite quick) but is not suitabl...

Re: Installation issue with Non Admin account Windows 10

The Installer is "Per User". Since you are changing the user, not elevating, it's installing to the admin account. Apparently few people run things this way since it's not a complaint I've seen before. Two options: 1. Run the installer in silent mode (It assumes All Users). If I recall correctly the...

Re: Creating a queue file from scratch

The Queue JSON is not a documented format as it's not expected to be user editable. It's also subject to change in any way without notice as a result so it's not advised to create json files yourself. There is limited error handling around it, so an invalid JSON will be hard to debug. You can always...

Re: Control Group Scripting w/HandbrakeCLI

NVEnc is video encoding only. As such, Decode, A/V Sync, Filters, Audio, Muxing etc are all CPU bound and the CPU can bottleneck the nvidia card. Also note, NVEnc is not a GPU encoder. It's an ASIC. It's dedicated hardware so it may not show up as GPU usage rather Encode Engine Usage instead. Finall...

Re: Is there a way to disable "Source Selection" at application startup?

The flow though the UI is: "Source -> Preset / Settings -> Process". As such, the first thing the vast majority of people are going to do is choose a source. Hence, the source selection dialog. I'd also note that a usability study done on the HandBrake UI by a 3rd party highlighted that new and less...
