Re: 'More Settings' Field Disappears When Using Hardware Encoders

It's been raised a number of times in the last year or two. It's actually not a bug but just not implemented due to a lack of developer interest / time. Patches are defiantly welcome

Re: Would this be an ok machine to encode x265 1080p?

What's your expectation? You may also consider an AMD system as the bang for buck there is pretty insane right now. Even taking into account your "deal", you might be surprised with the performance per dollar there. If your lucky, you might be looking at double the performance but it's really diffic...

Re: How to read the readme on mac

Any text editor will open it.

or it can be read with full formatting here: https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/ ... E.markdown

That said, what you likely want is the Documentation https://handbrake.fr/docs/

Re: Dark Mode & Larger Font for App Itself

Tools Menu -> Preferences -> General -> "Use The Dark theme ..." Or, you can turn that off and use the High Contrast settings in Windows itself. As for font size, It's not adjustable in-app, however it uses the system font size or larger. As such, would recommend changing the Windows Display Setting...

The audio tab is not supposed to be saved. Click on the Audio Behaviours button and configure the setup that you wish. This will become part of your preset.

Re: File Size After Update

The biggest change that causes this in x265 is the aq-mode=2 change. Setting it equal to 1 in the extra arguments will give a similar behaviour to before.

Alternatively just adjusting the CQ can bring things back in line.

Re: Render Video - CPU Temp. to 90 ° normal?

Apple likes running their machine near the thermal limits (price of being thin) so it's not uncommon to see them running Hot and in many cases, thermal throttling the clock speeds down.

Re: H.265 -> H.264 how to use VCE AMD

We don't formally support cards before VCE 3.4 (thus, Polaris and newer)
While there is nothing in code to prohibit it, Drivers will likely be problematic, especially on mobility parts and may prevent it's use within HandBrake.

There is no low power option in 1.3.x
Only the nighties

But it's beside the QuickSync options in preferences => Video on the nightly snapshots.

Re: General Observations

It's fairly normal for laptops to run at 90~100C when running HandBrake as the cooling solutions are rarely sufficient for the CPU's that are in them. You should be seeing significant clock throttling on the CPU and this is normal design behaviour in this kind of thermal environment. Affinity + Maxi...

Re: H265 NVEnc - Win vs Linux

The HandBrake version in the AUR repository is not supported by the HandBrake team. Sounds like they've done something dodgy there.

The main thing to make sure is a recent proprietary nvidia driver is installed.

Re: macOS transition to Apple Silicon (ARM)

It's relatively straightforward to scale ARM out to 32-64 cores (see Graviton, etc), and I expect Apple will do just that for the Mac Pro. Probably. Remains to be seen. They also have to support Powerful GPUs and it's unclear if they'll retain support for AMD at the moment. Slides so have have sugg...

Re: macOS transition to Apple Silicon (ARM)

HandBrake has been running on Linux ARM64 for a few years now, though we don't officially supported it. Also, ARM has NEON SIMD optimisations for both x264 and x265 Big Buck Bunny 1080p to 1080p using "Fast 1080p30" preset gives about 15fps on my ARM Cortex A-72 Quad Core 1.5GHz WARNING: This is bac...

Preferences -> Video Is it turned on there? Also, for anyone not familar, the last part of the version number on nvidia drivers translates to the version. i.e ....4.5148 -> 451.48 So aok with this. If it's still not working, then the GPU is likely rejecting our call to use it which means something e...

if I recall correctly, this isn't supported. HandBrake only opens a single flat directory of files. .eyetv "files" are actually not single files but container of files so require special treatment which excludes them from this feature.

It's not any of the when done options that's firing here.

It's the Send File To feature in Preferences that's triggering. (Tools Menu -> Preferences -> When Done -> Disable "Send file to"

Re: Low Qoality on Nvidia NVEnc

So I wonder is this normal? It's Normal. NVenc generally requires a fair bit more bit-rate to achieve "good" results. Probably more so on h264. I've not seen the results from turing cards yet myself but from what I've heard, it's not living up to the marketing of the improvements in the encode engi...
