Web Optimization

When I view a transcoded file using Media Inspector (also known as Media Info), there is a section for Encoder Settings which is obviously the Handbrake settings used to transcode the file. Is there something in those settings that will tell me whether I have checked Web Optimization?

Re: Apple TV 2 Vs. High Profile

Simply means if you want to rip at the highest quality without having to get super technical in the settings a good rule of thumb is to just select "High Profile". Ah ok. Well I tried ripping the same movie 3 times. Once with the 'ATV2' setting, once on the 'Normal' setting and once on 'H...

Re: Blu-Rays and subtitles...

How would I accomplish the same two issues with Blu-Rays and HandBrake? I'm a little lost. Only with a labor of love!!! I have converted about 250 dvd's over the last few weeks and am just about to finish transcoding my blu rays that I know I don't care about the subtitles. To finish, I probably ha...

Re: Measuring quality loss to encode DD from DTS

What about keeping the DTS track as the third audio track? SC I have tried that, and the aTV 3 would not recognize the file. I added both DTS-HD and DTS as passthru tracks after the AC3 passthru track. I then removed the 2 tracks (Subler) and it played fine. If you have any suggestions, I would lov...

Re: Measuring quality loss to encode DD from DTS

I'm looking at converting my video library for dedicated Apple device use, with an Ipad 3 and Apple TV 3. This is primarily converting blu-rays, many of which have DTS audio. Handbrake will allow me to re-encode the DTS core, often at 1.5 Mbps, to DD at 640 kbps. I'm curious if anyone has done any ...

Re: auto passthrough option

Would someone please tell me what the auto passthrough setting is under Preferences? Have tried reading the wiki and other web posts but am not sure I understand why and when I might set it as a preference. By default, Auto Passthrough will: 1) pass AC3, DTS, DTS-HD, MP3 or AAC through to the outpu...

Re: Keep same video quality while changing file type

It also has limited support for MPEG-4 Part 2. As quoted above, "MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats". So, what is Owenrg's and my most p...

Re: Keep same video quality while changing file type

H.264 is only one MPEG-4 implementation (MPEG-4 Part 10 to be exact). Standard MPEG-4 usually means MPEG-4 Part 2, as implemented by DIVX/XVID, etc. The "MP4" container is actually MPEG-4 Part 14. Confused yet? :p Yes, that is definitely confusing. But I thought the iPad would only native...

Re: Keep same video quality while changing file type

If the mkv or avi are anything else, they need to be transcoded to h.264 Not necessarily as the ipad also supports standard mpeg4 video. Basically if the video meets these specs you can just remux: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps...

Re: Keep same video quality while changing file type

Handbrake cannot do this, what you need is a remuxer. Handbrake is a transcoder so there will always be some quality loss. Google Subler or MKVTOMP4. Those are both good options, but only will be helpful if the files are already use the h.264 codec. If the mkv or avi are anything else, they need to...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***

Well, I don't know what to say. This is why, years ago, I started using HB then went to just ripping iso's and mkv's. All the different setting and parameters are enough to make my non-technical head spin. For casual user like me, and I am sure there are others out there, we just want to transcode o...

Re: **Updated** Bluray Ripping & Encoding (A Total Mac Solut

I will look into Jubler. I know what you mean about the annoying advertisement for the srt sharing site. Would be nice to clip that out. Right now, I try to just use sites that don't do that. Does Jubler also do the addition/subtraction of other file tracks and metadata like Subler? Just looking at ...

Dolby Prologic II Question

I transcode to play my files on either an aTV3 or iPad 2 or possibly iTunes (but have never actually done that). I use the High Profile setting. For audio, the first line I get as the default is Dolby Prologic II. In the next line, I will select my source to be either Dolby passthrough or discreet 6...

Re: **Updated** Bluray Ripping & Encoding (A Total Mac Solut

So, I'm not crazy when I look at all this and think to myself "Still can't go from bluray to mp4 with the subtitles that came on the disc" am I? I saw nutstick's post a little ways up there and I'm thinking he was talking about keeping everything in an MKV container. Things are a little d...

Re: Avatar (help!)

Well, the AppleTV doesn't support DTS audio. You need to re-encode your source, converting the DTS audio to 6-channel AC3 (instead of passing the AC3 narration track through). Yeah, that's what I figured out last night...after I got over my panic!! I have come to realize that it is not HB's falt bu...

Just spent 20 hours transcoding Avatar BD. The multichannel audio track has narration. I transferred from an mkv that plays fine. Here is a media inspector file: * * * Media Inspector 0.7.443 file analysis report. * * * Media Inspector is ©2011 by Diego Massanti - http://mediainfo.massanti.com * * *...

Re: aTV3 movie won't load

Ok. I'll start over because it played fine when encoded with the iPad 2 preset. I actually redid it using the high profile and did not check it before adding the metadata. I'll try recoding it. Checking playability. Then adding metadata. But there is nothing wrong with using high profile with a dvd,...

After thinking about it, yes, it did play fine before adding metadata with Subler. But I did the same thing with Thor and it plays fine?

Re: aTV3 movie won't load

Well, that's a good point. I used Subler to add metadata to both files. Do you see that one has thumbnails and the other doesn't? Where in the info should I look for that?

aTV3 movie won't load

I have encoded 2 movies using high profile & web optimized setting. One is a dvd the other is a blu ray. The recoded blu ray loads into the aTV and plays like a champ. The dvd will not load. It will play in iTunes however. Any idea's? I know it's probably overkill to use high profile on a dvd bu...
