Re: Re-encoding from GoPro 720p/30fps . Source is planar 4:2:0 YUV full scalle, can't get full scale output

At the moment, HandBrake converts full range to tv range. We have initial work to support full range and additional colorspaces (e.g. BT.2020) but nothing complete.

Re: You must first scan a source

Upon further review, it's quite possible that a feature in the video stream is not yet implemented in the libav dxtory decoder. Feeding the provided sample to avconv (11.3) produces this warning, triggered by https://github.com/libav/libav/blob/025fd76e1a2623c858d8c686a73cc30980a314b0/libavcodec/dxt...

Re: Dolby Atmos Not Working

Using MakeMKV to create a—wait for it—MKV and then feeding that to HandBrake will alleviate long scans due to Atmos.

Re: How to add audio track from file?

You could merge it after the fact; or maybe Audacity can tell you how much gain to apply? What Rodeo suggests is a good idea. Calculate the necessary gain outside of HandBrake, then apply it using HandBrake's gain control (up to +15 dB). Note that while normalization reduces headroom to full scale,...

Re: Converting Imovie - randomly pics one part - how to get rest?

It appears that your discs contain multiple titles (probably one for each menu item you see on your DVD player). If you look at the main HandBrake window, you will see an item labeled "Title:" from which you can choose one of your movie clips. If you'd like to encode all of the titles on a...

Glad you got it working.

Note that we recently switched from svn to git for source code management. The official repository is now on GitHub here: https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/

Looks like you're trying to read directly from a DVD that is copy protected. HandBrake does not remove copy protection. libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 5.0.1 libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable. libdvdread: Can't open E:\ for reading libdvdread: Device E:\ inaccessible, CSS authentication ...

Re: Letterbox

Most video that is encoded with black borders (e.g. DVDs) will purposefully place the subtitles in the black borders so that they don't obscure the video. HandBrake would do the same where possible if we were to add a padding filter. Just an aside, I would probably make this configurable. Correctio...

Do the bitrate math and use 2-pass encoding if you would like to target a very specific file size. Search "bitrate calculator" and don't forget to take your audio into account.

Re: looking for mkv preset without (or quite small) quality lose

Since the source is really 44 Mbps, and the Canon 600D is not a terribly efficient encoder This part is fine. The part about how many bits would be required to be transparent is subjective and has nothing to do with the input bitrate or the encoder's inefficiency. The 600D is inefficient but it's n...

Re: looking for mkv preset without (or quite small) quality lose

Since the source is really 44 Mbps, and the Canon 600D is not a terribly efficient encoder, HB might be able to encode transparently with just 22 Mbps. Since this file is around 33 GB, you can expect a file size of around 1.9 GB. I notice you are using just 2.3 Mbps? That seems rather low; you got ...

Also use NLMeans denoise if your video is noisy/grainy and you can tolerate its relative slowness. Noise adds a lot of complexity; file sizes decrease when noise is removed.

Just checked the file with qtfaststart and web optimized is indeed enabled. Sounds like a server issue. Check to make sure the MIME types for both mp4 and m4v are video/mp4.

Also, try configuring with --enable-local-autotools (which now includes --enable-local-pkgconfig).

Code: Select all

./configure --enable-local-autotools
Otherwise, the system pkg-config can't find the macros (a recurring pain in the rear).

Which MinGW toolchain are you using? The build server uses pre-built MinGW binaries. I use a Bash script to set this up on 14.04: #!/bin/bash TC="${HOME}/toolchains" wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/Toolchains%20targetting%20Win64/Automated%20Builds/mingw-w64-bin_x86_64...

...with respect to John's comment that it may not work for some AVCHD structures, because the software is mostly designed for Blu-ray. The AVCHD structures I have contain m2ts files and feeding the parent folder one-level above "BDMV" works fine. Your mileage may vary.

Re: Build single MP4 Home Movie file from mulitple MTS files

I'm not suggesting it's ideal, but typically one would preserve the parent folder(s). This makes sense say, for a packaged disc where all of the content is related. It doesn't make as much sense in the case of mixed content as you detail. At the moment, your best bet is indeed to use third party sof...
