Re: Encoding of very old movies from the 1950s (fps?)

Until discussing this here, I did the following. DVB-recording in HD (1280x720) Resizing the file: Cutting the black border Cutting to 16:9 by cutting 64 top and the rest bottom so I get exactly 16:9 (of course this is a matter of taste) If the result is below 1024, resizing to 1024x768 If the resul...

Encoding of very old movies from the 1950s (fps?)

I have very old DVB-PAL-recordings with old movies from the 1950s, which have been recorded from satellite tv and an enigma2-box. AFAIK these old movies (PAL) were taken with 25fps interlaced. But they are broadcasted with 50fps. So does it makes sense to reduce the fps from 50fps to 25fps? I did so...

Thanks for clarifying this.

Can you say a little bit more? 1 week, 1 month ...? Of course I understand that this is not sure.

Do you recommend repo or snap?

I use Ubuntu 19.10 and http://ppa.launchpad.net/stebbins/handb ... ntu/dists/ doesen't contain a snapshot version, so is it an idea to use handbrake with a snap installation. https://snapcraft.io/handbrake-jz says it is from October 2019

Display aspect ratio 16:9 but rotation 90° in metadata

I have got a video, probably from a mobile phone. With all my video players it is displayed in portrait mode and with handbrake too, while it was taken in landscape mode. Is there a simple way to rotate it? Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : Baseline@L3.1 F...

Own benchmark comparison using a linux terminal

I have an old a new pc and would like to find out, how much faster the new pc is. The new pc is "under construction", so I have ( would like to use ssh to send commands, if this makes sense. The easiest way is probably to use a command in a terminal with the same file. What / which options would you...

Re: SSD-PCIe vs. SATA

I assume Windows Explorer doesn't work like Linux Thunar, but maybe. There are not so many files in a folder when I open it.Let's say 150 files / dirs. Normally it opens immediately, using 3 handbrake sessions, it gets very slow.

Re: SSD-PCIe vs. SATA

I wonder why my Ubuntu-18.04-box has problems showing the file with the filemanager, the more videos are encoded. 1 video is ok with Thunar, with 3 or 4 I could take a minute until I see the files with the filemanager. The load can be over 20, cpu 95% or higher

Re: CPU for handbrake (4k UHD) and image editing ($200 - $400)

My thought was the fastest 65W cpu, which is the 3700X, maybe faster but not slower. The 3800X seems not make a lot sense, so the 3900X or maybe 3900 without X, if I can wait.

SSD-PCIe vs. SATA

Please move, if this is the wrong section.

Assuming, I have 2 SSDs, 1 with M.2-PCIe and 1 with SATA-SSD. Would you use the faster one for source files und the slower one for the output?

GeForce GTX 1660 or GTX 1660 TI?

For my new linux pc (Ubuntu 18.04, soon newer) I have to buy a new graphics adapter too. The decision is between GeForce GTX 1660 an GTX 1660 TI. CPU will be a Ryzen 3700X.

I know OpenCL is experimental with Linux and handbrake. Do you recommend the GTX 1660 TI or the cheaper GeForce GTX 1660?

Re: CPU for handbrake (4k UHD) and image editing ($200 - $400)

I will wait until october and at the moment the Ryzen 7 3700X is my favorite for handbrake. If it makes sense I can imagine to buy the Ryzen 9 3900X, but the reviews I read, say the the 3900 is about 20% faster than thte 3700 with multimedia, while the price is a lot more expensive then 20%.

CPU for handbrake (4k UHD) and image editing ($200 - $400)

I want to build a new system especially for handbrake and darktable using Ubuntu. The system should be "good" for coding "4k / UHD" videos and for 36MP image editing with darktable. Normally I buy cpus for about $/€ 200, but it looks like there is no chance to get a reasonable cpu at this price. So ...

AAC quality option?

I have a genera question re aac and the quality option. Highest value is 10. Can this value be compared with VBR 0, VBR 1 a.s.o with mp3? What is recommended for 5.1 and excellent sound? The only thing I can imagine at the moment, that higher is better.

[Invalid] HEVC: No greyscaling, no crf-value in metadata

HandBrake svn7412 (2015082501)

With HEVC the greyscaling does not work, while it works with X.264-

I am also missing the crf value in the metadate of the X.265-files.
