Re: encodes cannot be fast forwarded or skipped around in

I just tried this by running mkvmerge input.mkv -o output.mkv with an episode of 24. The outputted file works just fine, but it is about a half a meg smaller than the original. I wondered if anyone knew why this is... This is because mvkmerge does things like lacing audio frames together, so you on...

Yes, yes, it does.
You are correct that they are not required, but they are there.

Looks good to me!
Haven't tested it, though. And it's not like I have a MPEG or LPCM dvd to test with anyway.

Re: [Patch (v0.001)] Subtitle support for mp4 files

Some other things i've been thinking about: I'd say parsing of the srt file is quick enough to just do it in a pre-encode step - I would even go so far to decouple reading of the subs much more from the rest of libhb. In the end we might want stuff like showing the subs in the UI before the encode ...

Re: Per-track audio configuration.

Okay, the intermittent crash is happening in macosx/Controller.mm where I clear out the job audio list: /* Audio tracks and mixdowns */ /* Lets make sure there arent any erroneous audio tracks in the job list, so lets make sure its empty*/ for( int i = 0; i < hb_list_count(job->list_audio);i++) { a...

Re: [Patch (v0.001)] Subtitle support for mp4 files

Here's my thoughts. MP4CreateSubtitleTrack and MP4WriteSubtitleSample should be added to libmp4v2, not part of muxmp4.c. I'm not sure exactly what MP4SetTrackYTranslation does, but my guess is it should probably be part of libmp4v2 also. We really should be reading the srt file in a separate thread ...

Re: Per-track audio configuration.

Okay, I have it now compiling and working on the macgui, which means that it builds normally with xcode without errors. As well I re wired a good portion of how the audio is setup in macosx/Controller.mm particularly in prepareJob and so far in my testing everything is working as expected. And now ...

A patch for the above is at http://pastebin.ca/962532 . I'd rather not commit this until after the per-track audio work that saintdev & dynaflash are doing hits the tree - that stuff is way more important & I wouldn't want to do anything to slow it down. After that is in & settled I'll ...

Re: Why not link dynamically to the CSS library?

It just occurred to me, for linux, you could also use the system libdvdread. Just add "-ldvdread' to my previous patch and it works. Of coarse, you would also want to modify contrib/Jamfile to not download and build it. Then you would need an actual configure script that checks to make sure yo...

Re: Crazy? DVD menus in quicktime files

As the others have said, yes, it is possible to have DVD-like menus in MP4 files. The key here is the -like. The way DVD menus are done, and the way menus are done in MP4 are completely different, and translating them would be difficult, if it was possible at all. DVDs use a Virtual Machine that int...

Re: Undersized encode using ffmpeg encoder

That's very strange. Looks like ffmpeg far undershot the bitrate on the second encode. Not really sure what to tell you. The only thing I can think of is ffmpeg just happens to have very poor rate control on that particular sequence. About the only thing I can say is to try 2-pass and see if it hits...

Hmm, well we don't really need the mpeg2dec binary.
Could you try applying the patch at http://handbrake.pastebin.ca/937788. Then running jam.
Not sure if it'll work as mpeg2dec doesn't really seem to be setup to build without mpeg2dec.

Well, i'm a little worried about what others might think of the defines-to-enums patch. This used to be included in this complete patch, along with the config per audio patch. Also I would like input on the ogm->ogg patch. I can leave either of these out, but would like to include them if I can.
