Re: nOOb question: When to use the anamorphic checkbox?

COOL, thanks! I do have one clarification question about this one: "Widescreen" ... OK, the "generic widescreen" designation I usually see on the box is included in your list. Is it too much of a generalization to say that everything not 4:3 is therefore anamorphic? My apologies if I'm trying to mak...

nOOb question: When to use the anamorphic checkbox?

I read the anonymous intro to anamorphic DVDs, http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/wiki/AnamorphicGuide but missed how to identify an anamorphic DVD. Am I looking for a squished preview image in MF/HB? And if so, what if I can't tell for sure, especially if I'm unfamiliar with how it should look?

This bug? http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/ticket/12

Ick.

GeneRator, there are utilities such as Onyx that can purge various log files. But it's probably best to just look for it where massimobio suggests and get rid of it.

ah -- Visual Hub. I'd forgotten, thanks. I just now glanced an saw an EyeTV thread there ... I have much to read on that site too. Anyone happen to know what (read: how "good") their implementation of H.264 is like, compared to x.264 used here? Maybe I just answered my own question, if H.264 is H..2...

For helixomnimedia. http://handbrake.m0k.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=337 I'd wait about 2-3 weeks and in the meantime enjoy the outside or some other activity. As has been said, no one knows "exactly" to recommend. That seems to be the thrust of your post, and the gazillion other such posts here (mine...

De-interlacing ponderings, not for the patience-challenged.

The question helixomnimedia had here What is Deinterlace mean? Again conflicting reports on the setting. Some say it should be defaulted to be checked, others say don't check it. got lost in the shuffle, despite the fact it's been discussed may times ... Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inte...

Either is fine, but please place a link to the new site on these forums, or if it's to remain "Handbrake" kill MF altogether. The whole thing is confusing.

I will butcher this answer but still hopefully give you the gist of it. Some commercial DVDs are made with empty cells --- cells with nothing in them. DVD players are smart enough (dumb enough, probably more like it) to ignore or otherwise pass over them, but rippers are not, because rippers aren't ...

MPG > MP4

I apologize if this has been covered before, or if it really isn't a part of the plan for MediaFork, or if I oversimplify, but here's my scenario. I make EyeTV recordings, which are made as "MPEG1/MPEG2" (elgato's description). EyeTV has a lot of options for exporting (transcoding) its own recording...

Something to ponder? about Ticket #38

http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/ticket/38 Sorry, I don't have a HBDev login ... but when looking at the locked thread below this one I noticed automatically adding movie info, perhaps scraped from imdb or Amazon was proposed. I only wanted to mention another thing that has movie/TV info is elgato's Ey...

I was under the impression AC3 was already lossy; i.e. not on par with PCM audio in bitrate. By the same token, would not file sizes balloon if the AC3 soundtrack could be replaced with ALS or some other lossless? I understand two wrongs don't make a right and that converting to AAC or MP3 can't in ...

I don't know that I'd buy a TV based on how AppleTV or iTunes might supply a picture to it ... but I have some comments nonetheless. AppleTV supposedly only provides a 720p signal, so a TV with that same resolution wouldn't have to upsample/upconverrt whatever AppleTV provides. That's one potential ...
