Re: Disappointed to see target file size go

I am particularly fond of the person in some thread who said he consulted a "chart" that told him what the target size should be based upon what "type" of movie it was. What's easier for the end user: trying to figure out what target file size is going to be best for each and eve...

Re: Disappointed to see target file size go

Reading this thread is how I imagined conversations went in various taverns when the motorized vehicle was introduced—"Well, my horse and buggy has served me well for thousands of trips, why do I need a 'car'?" Can anyone articulate an actual advantage that target file size provides over c...

Re: Trekstor TV Xtreamer doesn't like MKV's from version 0.9

Try setting an explicit framerate instead of "Same as source". Your player is likely having problems with variable framerate video. 0.9.4 output the exact same variable framerate as 0.9.5, but it incorrectly reported it as being a constant framerate.

Try disabling "libdvdnav" under the advanced preferences. You'll need to restart Handbrake for it to take effect.

Re: Encoding Mater's Tall Tales from DVD on Mac

Each of these is incomplete and either skips around, cuts parts, or cuts out early--so using a DVD player would not at all be helpful. I have tried pulling each file and it not only takes forever, but it is virtually impossible to get one that is complete. We are just trying to see if anyone else h...

Re: Cartoons coming out huge!

Try adding weak/medium denoise, see if that helps. If the source is as crappy as you say it is, it's going to be a battle. When you say "quality is already bad" do you mean that the quality at RF19 was significantly worse than the source, or just that the source was bad? Either way, the on...

Re: Cartoons coming out huge!

What playback device are you targeting?

At the very least, you can always increase the RF (higher values = lower quality and file size)

Re: 100% quality options

For standard def material, start at RF18. Anything substantially lower than that and you're just wasting bits.

Are you pixel peeping or actually watching the movie play?

Yep, just replace the entire advanced tab with that string. I think that should be compatible with your WD device, but I'd give it a shot with one episode to make sure.

Re: [Rejected] iPhone/iTouch app to begin/pause/cancel queue

But I think that HandBrake will eventually make a giant leap into tablets and even smartphones in a few years - not now, but definitely gonna happen. Tablets are coming out with quad core cpus and such, even smartphones. I seriously, seriously doubt that will happen anytime in the next decade. Vide...

Re: ATV 2 vs ATV - What's the Difference?

The simple answer is that the ATV2 is just a more capable device and can thus handle more complex x264 options. You're giving up some efficiency (quality per byte) and probably some absolute quality as well. Movies encoded with the ATV preset will play on both devices, but movies encoded with the AT...

Re: tv show dvd?

Why not try an episode or two at High Profile, RF18 and see how it looks? It's hard for us to tell you what looks best in your setup. You can also try the x264 "slower" preset ref=8:b-adapt=2:direct=auto:me=umh:subq=9:rc-lookahead=60:analyse=all:trellis=2 which will cost you encode speed i...

Re: [Rejected] iPhone/iTouch app to begin/pause/cancel queue

It woudnt be hard to make it work, all you need is to send a code to start encoding a queue or a file - its not harder than that. Seeing as handbrake is open source, we anxiously await your development of an iOS app, as well as your patch that allows for remote queue management for all three GUIs. ...

Re: Encodes aren't encoding to Target Filesize

I follow the scene's guidelines when I encode television shows, thats why I encode to such filesize. It varies depending on length, film/animation, xvid or x264 etc. Or, you know, you could let handbrake/x264 do that for you by setting a reasonable RF value that yields a "library average"...
