Re: Preset Definitions

If you leave out the iPods, the AppleTV is the weakest device in that bunch. You'd be safe encoding with the "AppleTV" preset included in 0.9.5. If you take out the ATV or you upgrade to the 2nd generation ATV, then you could use the "AppleTV 2" preset which would be a bit better quality/better file...

The easier way might be for you to tell us what devices you're trying to target, then we could point you to the right preset or in the direction of an appropriate setting.

Re: 0.9.5 Encodes Lock up Classic Apple TV

I find it odd that I have been repeatedly harassed over the exclusion of an activity log that cannot tell you anything about what is happening in an Apple TV box when others reporting the same issue and not including the same log have not been singled out. Oh for the love of god, your activity log ...

Re: 0.9.5 Encodes Lock up Classic Apple TV

I was not rude in that first post and I completely respected the forum rules. The following is a quote that is from that post: "I will post an activity log when I get a chance to get back to my Desktop Mac where all of my encoding is done." I most certainly did explain why I did not include the log...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.5 Discussion Thread

I am trying to find out why I am being berated for not including a log with a support request. I have not requested support. You said that handbrake was broken and was crashing your AppleTV. You were told to provide an activity log so that we could tell you why it was crashing your AppleTV. In fact...

Re: 0.9.5 Encodes Lock up Classic Apple TV

How could there be any possible way to provide a log that exists on a computer that I did not have access to at that moment. I stated that I did not have a log to submit but would provide it as soon as possible. Then don't start a thread until you have access to it, because nothing can be done unti...

Custom presets are not updated by handbrake between versions, and should be recreated from scratch to avoid issues like yours.

Is it just handbrake that's crashing or your whole computer?

Random crashes that occur at different times are often indicative of hardware failure (usually overheating).

RF10 is half as crazy as RF5, but you've got a whole lot of crazy that you started with so—for everyone—RF10 is still crazy.

Why are you being deliberately difficult and not posting your Activity Log as required by the BIG RED BOX at the top of the page, and as Rodeo and rogue23 both reminded you to post?

TedJ: I'm having a problem with the thing. It's giving me some error message and the encode shows something different. You screwed up handbrake! Fix that thing that broke while I did something with handbrake on some sort of video!

Re: What does RF: in constant quality stand for?

I never meant to claim that everyone should encode at RF 5, or that Futurama was a good test case -- I only posted in the first place because a few people had said that RF > 19 was a waste, and I knew that it wasn't (always) true. What you say about black blobs is interesting and makes total sense....

Indeed, you can use the helpfully included "AppleTV" preset. Next time though, post your Activity Log as the forum rules in the bright red box tell you to.

So if we take you at your word, you've read other threads. In one of those threads I would imagine you saw an activity log posted or a request for one to be posted. @thompson: I am not sure I understand your comment. The "DVD"'s I have are just video_ts folders that I've already copied onto hard drives. Re: What does RF: in constant quality stand for?

I came across this forum looking for the way to make perfect DVD rips with Handbrake in order to junk my DVD's with no regrets. Hard drive space is cheap, why not just rip the DVD without transcoding, using something like MactheRipper, Ripit, etc. [Edit: or any of their Windows equivalents] Then yo...

What are you planning to use to play back these files? If just your computer, then use the High Profile preset not Universal. The Universal preset has significant concessions to encoding quality in order to maintain maximum compatibility with older / degenerate playback devices.

First things first, don't run handbrake from the Disk Image that you downloaded. Copy the Handbrake.app file to your /Applications folder.
