Encoding question

Assume I have an .mov file captured with my iPhone. It's framerate is something like 59.0XXXX (they differ a bit from file to file). What happens if I recode it with Handbrake (with h.265 for example) to 60fps (constant), but decides to "copy AAC audio" instead of recoding it. Is there a chance of g...

Re: Limit max bitrate in 2-pass mode?

I did a quick test, average vbr = 1000, and vbv-maxrate and vbv-bufsize to 2000, but I still gets peaks at 2500kbps (using bitrate viewer for mp4-files). Anything I've forgotten?

Limit max bitrate in 2-pass mode?

Is there a way of limiting the max bitrate in 2-pass mode? Let's say I want a average 2000kbit but I never want max bitrate to go over 3000kbit.

Join episodes as single file

Sometimes I want to rip episode-DVD's as a single mp4/mkv file (mostly children DVD's). Would be nice with builtin functionality to append several titles to eachother.

Got another old tv-series today, "Automan", from the early 80's. Have the same problem as my previous DVD's.. :(((

Re: Deinterlacing/Decombing problems(?)

Thanks for all replys.
Obviously I can forget to convert my 7 seasons of "Macgyver"(PAL) to MP4 since all episodes I've tried looks bad (which makes sense by all explanations found in this thread). :(

Re: Deinterlacing/Decombing problems(?)

I tried it on a region 1 release of the same tv-series. I used "detelecine" and set framerate to 23.97 and it looked alot better. With the exception for the opening credits, it suffered from interlace-artifacts from time to time but rest of the episode looks really good. I guess I can live with that...

Re: Deinterlacing/Decombing problems(?)

Bad news, but thanks anyway.
If I had an NTSC DVD instead, I would probably not have this problem?

Re: Deinterlacing/Decombing problems(?)

EVERY SINGLE ENCODE YOU DO IN HANDBRAKE GENERATES A PAIR OF LOGS -- A SCAN LOG AND AN ENCODE LOG By giving links to two identical copies of the same Scan Log , you have not done what was asked, which is to provide the Encode Log. rtm Having a bad day? Those files are not identical for my eyes anywa...

Re: Deinterlacing/Decombing problems(?)

It's a tv-series from 1989 or so. I can't give you any other logs cause there aren't any (that I'm aware off). Not sure why you can't download the movies since they're on dropbox, perhaps you're behind a corporate firewall? The DVD's obviously looks ok on a DVD-player but I can't get it look good wi...

Deinterlacing/Decombing problems(?)

I've been struggling with ripping some old PAL DVD's, the output is not "looking good". I need to deinterlace the video of course but the output is not looking good anyway, the video sometimes gets slightly jerky. I've tried all decombing options, deinterlacing, detelecine, but the jerkiness is stil...

Re: [Invalid] "Timeproblems" with 0.9.9 (or nightly build).

I don't recall earlier Handbrake-versions had this problem.. However then I used CTRL+C with the CLI window (that's gone now..?)

Re: [Invalid] "Timeproblems" with 0.9.9 (or nightly build).

This shouldn't be a hard "bug" to recreate. Just stop the encoding process (Mkv-fileformat in my case) through the GUI with the STOP button. Just tried it with nightly build 5641, problem remains. Here's the encode-log.. HandBrake svn5641 (Nightly Build) - 32bit Version OS: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1....

[Invalid] "Timeproblems" with 0.9.9 (or nightly build).

Stopping an MKV encoding process gives the movie a length of 00:00:00 (VLC). Stopping an MP4 before it's finished makes the file unplayable. Looks like there's some index(?) missing when the encoding process is aborted.
I'm running the Windows build of Handbrake (Windows 7 x64)..

Burned in subtitles position?

I frequently use burned-in subtitles for my iPhone-encodes. However, they seem to be positioned a bit too high in the encoded movie. Is there a way of adjusting this?
I never had this problem earlier but I think it has been introduced in the nightly builds (I've tried a few now...)

Soft subtitles and iPad

This issue has been discussed before but as far as I know, never solved. Is there a way of solving the "small subtitle"-problem using soft subtitles (.srt) and iPad/iPad2?

Re: Encoding hints for tv-series

My iPhone4 refuses to play files encoded with "tff=1" sadly.. I've uploaded a file for anyone to check out. Especially check out the mountain in the foreground moving at about 00:10 into the clip. It's jerky. It's encoded as 25FPS (PAL DVD) and decomb default (to get rid of interlacing stripes). May...

Encoding hints for tv-series

I've been trying to rip my MacGyver collection from DVD to MKV, but with poor results. I am not sure what I'm doing wrong. The results gets choppy and "unsmooth". The DVD's are in PAL format. I've tried using deinterlacing/decomb (not sure what it do, but I've tried it anyway), but the output is sti...

Re: No artwork on iPad/iPhone

iTunes doesn't seem to like my files either. When I click on them on the device (through iTunes), the dialog that opens doesn't display anything either, and kind of freezes. Strange stuff.

Re: No artwork on iPad/iPhone

Perhaps I was unclear. Previously has the iPod app displayed a thumbnail from the movie in the movielist. Not anymore, just a blank frame. The iPad has the same behaviour. It's very difficult to pick a movie on the iPad because all I see is empty frames.
