Preferred presets not being saved

I know from reading forum that the ideas for the presets is if you don't like the ones on offer you should be able to select the one closest to what you want & then save all of the settings for use next time. I have tried doing this a few times & I find that only some of the alterations that I have ...

Differences MP4 & MKV

Am I correct if I were to suggest say that the video file for MP4 & MKV are basically the same except that MP4 can be played by more players & that MKV has fewer ways of being played although If you can play it you can have more features like subtitles & chapter points. If that premise is correct wh...

Help required to alter aspect ratios

Almost all new TVs have a display ration of 16 x 9. Most of the very old films were shot 4 x 3 except for the old epics that were sometimes as wide as 1 x 2.35. A friend who has seen just how well Handbrake is able to encode a movie likes the quality of the Handbrake output but seems to prefer havin...

Join multiply files for lone long MKV file?

I wish to take a few old home made DVD's which I created that have chapter points etc join them together into only long file & render them out as a MKV file for playing in my media player. Do I have to join them together before using Handbrake & if so how is this done?

Container confusion

I'm still confused about containers. Basically it seems that I can choose MP4 or MKV for output. Do these 2 different containers use the same H264 codec? Is the only difference the fact that the MKV container can carry extra data like chapter markers & external sub titles that can be turned on/off i...

Preventing shutdown

Most times I get Handbrake to shutdown after its processed a queue of files. Occasionally I try to do some encoding while I'm doing something else with my PC & I forget that I have already chosen the option to shut down when finished. I have looked on this forum to see if I can prevent shutdown if I...

I can't rear the rear speakers after recode.

I have ripped DVD's onto my HDD & when I play them back with either PowerDVD or VLC Player I can here audio from the rear speakers. I have then tried taking the same files & recoding them in Handbrake only to find that I no longer have sound from the rear speakers. I have tried using both automatic ...

Stretching 4x3 to 16x9 without cropping?

I have read the help wiki about aspect ratio & I am still a bit confused. I have been asked to create a new MPEG4 file using Handbrake. The source video is shot in 4x3 ratio & I have been asked to create a copy that in MPEG4 that is 16x9. But this I mean we are after a new file that has stretched th...

What does this message mean & how do I get past it?

I downloaded & installed version 9.4. As soon as I selected a mpeg 2 file to encode I received the following message & can't proceed. What does this message mean & how do I get past it? "fmReadDVD.cs-updateUIELements System. Nulreference exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object...

Combine 2 different VOB sets & keep subtitles & chapter poin

I have a couple of old videos that have subtitles & chapter points & I was going to recode them into MP4. I had converted each set of VOB's to just one VOB for each file & was about to give the MP4 encoding to Handbrake. It just occurred to me that I might be able possible to combine both VOB files ...

Saving presets

I have just tried to save my first preset, but the results suggest that I might not be doing this correctly. The user guide suggests that for most people the MP4 container would be best. I selected this for my preset & saved the preset but when I opened it & selected a file to encode it was displayi...

Frameserver with DVD to remove Logos?

Reading these forums it's apparent that many users record MPEG2 or TS files off the air. Most of these programs seem to have the TV stations logo printed in the corner of the picture & most people myself included don't like them. A couple of years ago I saw a very effective demonstration where one o...

Re: Can HandBrake open TS streams for recoding

Well I recorded another TS stream to my PC & HandBrake was able to open it or sort of. By that I mean it opened the full stream but I wasn't offered the opportunity to choose which stream I wished to encode. Nevertheless I tried to encode whatever stream the program had detected. This it did OK but ...

Can HandBrake open TS streams for recoding

I finally seem to have the program creating usable files that work just fine. What I would also like to do if it's possible would be to record a full TS stream off air using my PC tuner card. VideoReDo TVSuite can edit out the ads & allow be to see the subtitles that are enbedding into the TS stream...

Re: Newbie basic questions

Because I had done clean up of my PC yesterday & I had deleted the log I decided to recode the same file. This time however I not only had the subtitles embedded into the file at the correct time but I found that when played back in VLC player that I could jump chapters as well. I have yet to determ...

Re: Newbie basic questions

Thanks for the reply. I have now tried encoding a file that has subtitles from a video TS file. I had encoded it twice & both times were very quick. As for subtitles I have tried ticking the box with english & automatic but neither time did the resulting file have subtitles burns in even though they...

Newbie basic questions

This is my first posting. Let me say that I have read the FAQ page but still I have a few questions. A search of that page makes no mention at all about subtitles even though I can see the option displayed on the programs interface. Suppose that I have a complete DVD ripped onto my hard drive, just ...
