Increase audio while reducing dynamic range ?

I have been saving video files to MKV. My wife is always complaining about the audio. She says that either the sound is booming out or is too soft. Is there any way to deduce the both make the audio louder & reduce the dynamic range? I'm aware that many people would be wanting to go the other way. T...

When I click my Handbrake icon to start the program I get this message. 'An Unknown Error has occured. Re: I can't recode this file

I've been making the copy as you suggested & then the file recodes OK. Today I tried just using VideoRedo which is also on a second PC that only run's XP. This time I was able to just have Handbrake recode without having to make the "Quickstream Fix". So maybe the problem is a Windows 7 problem.

Problems with presets

I have 2 problems with pre-sets. The first was because some of the options I had chosen never seemed to be in the pre-set the next time I wished to use them. Even though I made choices before saving as a pre-set it never saved these options. Save as MKV,& always burn in subtitles. Then I noticed tha...

Re: Overriding 1 minute shutdown warning?

Because if you start a queue & you have idea as to when it will finish & there is no point leaving the PC on unnecessarly wasting power.

Overriding 1 minute shutdown warning?

I usually set the program to turn off the PC when it's done. I sometimes intervene to prevent this from occurring if I see that the encoding is almost done & I'm still working on something else. But sometimes I see the 1 minute shutdown notice but the queue screen can't be found. Is a shutdown preve...

Presets for cropping?

I have looked but have been unable to see any presets for when you want to crop the original input so that it's new file can fill the screens which is usually now days 16x9. I thought that many users might want to change 4x3 to 19x9 with or without stretching? I'm guessing that if we were to do this...

Increasing bitrate to cover more audio tracks

I'm guessing that for most users they decide what bit rates gives them accectable results and that they use 800,1200,2000 as a preset from then on. If your preset has created for only one audio track & you now decide that you need to add a 2nd or a third is it it just a case of upping your preset fi...

Re: How does 95 minute program grow to over 17 hours?

I see that there is a new version of Mediainfo today which I have downloaded & installed. You ask for the file's original properties. Which tab do you mean. I haven't see a log facility in this application?

Re: How does 95 minute program grow to over 17 hours?

The Quick stream cop didn't work. I suppose the problem must lie with either Windows or VideReDo becaue files ripped from DVD's will encode OK. It appears to only be the opes recorded by PC tuner card that creates problems. Perhaps the PC tuner cars software has a problem?

Actually I had .96 installed the first time I tried this encode. So I tried going back to .95 but the results were the same. I forgot to mention that in my first post.

How does 95 minute program grow to over 17 hours?

I recorded a TV show using my PC tuner card. The recording was about 100 minutes long. Since the program had no adds I used VideoReDo3 to trim off start & end & create a 95 minute MPEG2 file. When I opened the file in HB I noticed that it said the program was 17hours & 40 minutes long. Even though I...

How do I see how long encode will take?

I can't seem to find an answer to what should be a simple question. If entering the setting that I wish to encode one or more files & have them added to the encode queue & do a preview I seem to be able to get back to the queue to see how long the encodes might go. If I just have one file & ask it t...

Re: Can TV braodcasts fool software about quality?

I presume that if I encounter this again I just as well might as well save the original SD file with my original preset? And If I only have the HD boadcast I may as keep it as broadcast? Correct?

Can TV braodcasts fool software about quality?

I recorded a SD broadcast 720x576 & used my preset. It looked pretty good. I then noticed that the same TV channel was broadcasting the same program on their HD channel a couple od days later so I recorded the same program again. This was supposed to be 1400x1080. I encoded the program for a second ...

Is the default surround template just stereo

I have re read your guide about surround sound & it says that the easiest way is to just use the default Dolby Prologic 2 template which it says will use be downmixed. Exactly just what does this mean? I wan't to contain all of the audio tracks provided they are different. If I use this option do I ...

Re: Do these files need 2 pass encoding again?

I had assumed that the files in question had already been made of constant quality. I have just encoded a file that was just over 4GB & expected a file to be less than 1GB & set the switch to constant quality but I ended up with a file size about 5 times this. I had thought that the old MPEG2 files ...

I have been gradually changing my videos to you more efficient code & keeping the files of a dedicated media drive. All of these newer recordings have been done using 2 pass encoding. Re: Getting second audio track off of disk

I know that I could encode the the audio portion twice but as far as I can see you can only do this at the time you also encode the video. I would then end up with 2 identical video files with 2 different audio tracks & I was hoping for getting one video files with 2 audio tracks attached.

Getting second audio track off of disk

To free up some room I started to recode all of my old DVD's & then store the converted files onto a small portable hard drive. Most of the videos are encoded to MP4 but those that also had a second audio track that was worth preserving I opted to encode to MKV because its supposed to be capable of ...

Preset won't play

I used the preset normal for the first time yesterday to make a file. I can't get the files to play with a couple of different media players. When I right click on the file using the Mediainfo utility it tells me

MPEG$
Base Media Version 2
MP42
I.26GB.

Did I do something wrong?
