Re: Only seeing a single English subtitle track while MKV has 4 English tracks

There are indeed actually 5 English PGS subtitle tracks in the source. Sounds like possibly a selection behavior bug?

Re: .MOV files issues

HB doesn't support the rotation flags in the MOV container, but you can use the rotate filter to rotate it the way it should be. Actually rotation flags should be supported now, but it seems like the rotation flag is incorrect in this source (or incorrectly parsed?) -- manually configuring the rota...

Re: Handbrake AAC vs AC3 (2.0 ONLY)

FDK-AAC only does AAC-HE at very low bitrates. s/FDK-AAC/all AAC encoders. HE-AAC is mostly useful at bitrates where AAC-LC reaches the limit of its efficiency. tl;dr if you want good audio quality, use AAC and give it enough bandwidth to perform (128+ Kbps for Stereo, 192-256+ Kbps for 5.1, or qua...

Re: merge VOB

MakeMKV would only merge files if there is a play list that has them merged, otherwise it will treat them as separate files. Were you meaning mkvmerge? musicvid ain’t too bright, he probably meant iTunes or MS Excel. That's a bit rude, to say the least. We get it, neither of you like each other… al...

Known issue, but there's no easy fix. Better to use plain stereo or true multichannel audio.

Re: Encoding never completes - Hereditary

It could be a bug in HandBrake and one of the libraries it uses, but those aren't easy to fix. You're better off working around the issue using MakeMKV or CloneDVD if you have that.

Re: Please explain Frame Threads in extra Options

Keep in mind if you go from 12 (default frame threads with 8 logical cores) to 2, your encode will be 5 to 6 times slower… Threads' effect on quality is mostly negligible so long as (thread_count) is <= (Vres / 40), where Vres is the vertical resolution in pixels. So with 12 threads, even a full fra...

Re: x265 encoding - more RF for 1080p 50p then 25p?

x264 at least is frame duration aware, so you should be able to use the same RF regardless of frame rate. Not sure about x265 or other encoders.

Re: AAC 7.1 Support

It won't be in the list if your input audio track is not 7.1. If you have a source with 7.1 audio loaded in HandBrake, and 7.1 is not listed in the mixdown drop-down for the corresponding audio input track, please provide the Scan Log for said source and a screenshot of the audio panel.

You have two audio tracks in the same output file. Re: Constant Quality Settings of 0

Blu-ray discs are encoded using lossy video compression techniques; MakeMKV is passing it through. HandBrake always re-encodes the video. HandBrake's RF 0 is smaller than the uncompressed studio matter, but larger than a lossy encode of said studio master (such as the Blu-ray). You may be better off...

The hardware seems quite suitable if you used hardware accelerated encoding.
No, you need hardware decoding, hardware filtering and a zerocopy path too.

Re: Cannot save preset, reverts settings

The Mac user interface doesn't allow in-place saving of presets; you need to set your settings and create a new preset (the button is labeled "Save New Preset…"). Also, subtitle and audio settings for a preset are set via the corresponding panel's "Selection Behavior…" dialog; the audio and subtitle...

Re: CPU upgrade

4 GB is indeed a bare minimum nowadays; and not enough if you want to encode 4K with x264 (and possibly x265) lookahead. It won't have any effect on encoding speed per se though (until you run out of available RAM, that is). Not familiar enough with AMD CPUs to offer any guidance in that regard.

The main issue is above, it might be an empty track… or a decoder bug?
