Re: Audio disapears after about 1 second

Interestingly, the symptom is the same (audio cuts out after about a second) but has a different cause.

Any chance you can also upload WP_20151113_19_45_13_Pro.mp4 from your first post with the log?

Re: Audio disapears after about 1 second

Here are two links to some sample files. The image quality is not very good, poor lighting and my wife did not know how to adjust for low light conditions. https://www.dropbox.com/s/niaazdut8wsshi8/WP_20151113_19_42_49_Pro.mp4?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/niaazdut8wsshi8/WP_20151113_19_42_49_Pro....

Re: Audio disapears after about 1 second

If you can share same clips with problematic E-AC-3 audio via Dropbox or similar, we could take a look at it (nothing will come of it in the short term, but eventually it may be possible to amend the corresponding audio decoder if there's indeed a bug) :)

Re: MP4 & Dolby Atmos

Nah, DTS in MP4 is supported… either via the officially-registered sample entry codes (like Dolby MLP/TrueHD)* which no publicly-available software I know of support, but also in an unofficial way (used by HandBrake) supported by a lot of open-source playback software (VLC and many others). *the spe...

What did you use to record the digital tape in the first place? It's possibly exposing a limitation of the libavcodec E-AC-3 decoder, which is intriguing…

Re: Rip of 4K Blu-Ray gives No Valid Source or Title Found

HB ain't real good with partially de-protected disks, rip to a video file with MakeMKV. That's not the issue. HandBrake doesn't support 4K Blu-ray discs yet (off the top of my head, I can't remember if support is partial or altogether absent for now). Assuming MakeMKV added support for 4K already, ...

Re: MP4 & Dolby Atmos

HandBrake cannot mux TrueHD/TrueHD+Atmos to the MP4 container (no publicly-available software can, as far as I know). Not really an issue since nothing would be able to play it back anyway…

Re: Did I make a mistake on audio track settings?

HandBrake 1.0.1? That's not the latest :P Your output has two audio tracks, #2 is multichannel. [11:31:57] * audio track 1 [11:31:57] + decoder: English (DTS) (5.1 ch) (track 1, id 0x1) [11:31:57] + bitrate: 1536 kbps, samplerate: 48000 Hz [11:31:57] + mixdown: Dolby Pro Logic II [11:31:57] + encode...

Re: Why can't I choose an MPLS file as the input (as opposed to selecting the entire BD folder?)

Titles correspond to the scanned MPLS files, but IIRC start at 1 for the first playlist (regardless of whether it's actually called 00001.mpls or not) and increments for each MPLS, not accounting for absent playlist files, etc.

There should be an "advanced" option to set the RF slider's granularity in settings somewhere.

You maybe be thinking of H.264 vs. H.265, rather than specific encoder implementations?

Also, where do you see people benchmarking x265 on DVD-sized sources? It's 2019…

Re: Why can't I choose an MPLS file as the input (as opposed to selecting the entire BD folder?)

You want to choose the non-batch open folder for BD structures. Note that any playlist shorter than the "minimum title length" (configurable in settings) will be skipped, which saves a good amount of time (but still slower than playlist-specific scan). You might want to adjust that on a source by so...

Re: Only seeing a single English subtitle track while MKV has 4 English tracks

They won't add anything if you've already got a burn in track in the list AND the additional subtitles from the source would require burn-in. That's gotta be a bit confusing, because it does make it look like HandBrake doesn't see the additional tracks. Historically, the MacGUI used to let you sele...

Re: Only seeing a single English subtitle track while MKV has 4 English tracks

You cannot have Blu-ray subtitles in MP4, they must be burned in. Only one track may be burned in.

If you want all subtitles from the source, your output container format must be MKV.

Re: Get 24bit audio with AAC

Well if you feed 16-bit audio to the encoder, then the maximum actual bit depth of any sample will be 16 bits, of course.

HandBrake feeds 32-bit float to audio encoders, which allows for a maximum of up to 24 bits (integer equivalent) per sample.

Basically each sample has a different bit depth. This applies to all lossy audio encoding techniques.

Re: Get 24bit audio with AAC

There is no such thing as 24-bit AAC. MediaInfo will report a 16-bit depth for all AAC audio, but that number is meaningless.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_bit_depth wrote:
Bit depth is only meaningful in reference to a PCM digital signal. Non-PCM formats, such as lossy compression formats, do not have associated bit depths.
