Re: Windows and Linux MKV converts are failing

Hardware acceleration was not being used in your original log anyway. I don't have any obvious ideas though, sorry.

Occasionally such galleries are part of the menu and would not be recognized by HandBrake at all.

FLAC encoder is your best bet if you want to stick with a HandBrake-only workflow.

Which kind of information from MediaInfo do you exactly want to see?
All of it. MediaInfo is a utility that you download from mediaarea.net, not a generic term.
see my post from Thu Sep 03, 2020 2:56 pm
That's not a MediaInfo report.

Because dvdnav allows reading discs where dvdread alone fails. Overall, dvdnav is a bit more reliable.

It's a feature of the software-based encoders (x264, x265) only. It's bitstream-level metadata.

Re: NVENC versus CUDA and Hardware Encoding Performance

It's still a bit confusing for end users because NVIDIA's API for NVENC does use CUDA (even though the encoding is still done on the dedicated hardware rather than the GPU itself).

Re: Handbrake Only Scans Title Sequence

X-Plane, erm, I mean, HandBrake isn't always the best at reading DVD structures, especially when structural copy protection is used. Whereas for apps like MakeMKV, keeping up with them is kind of their Raison d'être :) X-Plane really sucks at reading DVD structures, and the orthophoto scenery isn't ...

Re: Huge file size increase encoding with bars cropping x264

Both encodes are 1440x816 storage, but the no-crop has letterboxing, thus only 1440x616 of those pixels contain video data (the remaining 200 pixels contain black bars that are easily compressed). The cropped version uses all 1440x816 pixels (none of it letterboxing) and therefore has about 25% more...

Re: Ai upscaling - 1080p to 8k to 1080p

I understand the idea of "enhanced" upscaling for playback on a high-resolution display, but upscaling then downscaling sounds a lot like just applying a sharpening filter. I wonder whether the results would be any better than using a dedicated sharpening filter; I suspect not consistently so, but m...

Re: Splitting files for faster/higher encodes?

Depending on the audio format, video and audio frame boundaries may not align exactly, so you'll want to be extra careful when splitting/joining files to avoid compounding A/V sync offsets. Generally speaking, it's just easier for most end users to encode multiple different movies/episodes at once, ...

av_read_frame error (-13): Permission denied This is pretty weird since reading the source file clearly worked for the initial scan. That won't fix the problem with his HandBrake-encoded MP4 output though. He needs to check the "large file size" checkbox, or better yet, instell the current version of HandBrake which does it automatically.
