Re: Anamorphic Questions
You are also incorrect; it is possible to create an MP4 file (not sure about AVI), for example, that STORES the data using non-square pixels (not simply displays it). A pixel by itself doesn't have any shape, actually. It's just a dot with a color. What makes a pixel non-square is the pixel aspect ...

Re: Anamorphic Questions
However, 720x480 to 640x480 is a special case, since it is only necessary to change the PAR - each pixel will be smaller, but will keep its original value. Therefore, the conversion is lossless. My original question was whether HandBrake realizes this is a special case or treats it just like the ot...

Re: Anamorphic Questions
Changing the storage resolution = resizing. it's exactly the same. If you don't resize, then the storage resolution remains the same. Well, maybe you can call it "resizing"... but the question is whether it is lossless. I believe that it is (theoretically, once again). It isn't. Storage r...

Re: Anamorphic Questions
You still have a storage dimension of 720 x 480 No, you have a storage resolution of 640x480 in the second case. Changing pixels to 1:1 affects storage resolution, not display resolution. No. Display resolution doesn't exist per se. It depends on storage resolution and pixel aspect ratio. Changing ...

Re: HandBrake SVN2845 Snapshot
RoverTX, please create a new topic for your issue. My problem is that if I don't have it set to 100% (0RF) it ends up looking very blocky every other time something movies. I wasn't having this problem before I updated. In this new topic you create, please provide an encode log for a non-100% encode...

Re: Anamorphic Questions
640 x 480 with square pixels (PAR of 1/1) will indeed result in the same aspect ratio of 4:3 as 720 x 480 with a PAR of 8/9. But your are losing quality by changing the storage dimensions (whether you call that resizing or not). I don't understand why I am losing quality. This sort of change is (th...

Re: Anamorphic Questions
720x480 is 4:3 after adjusting for non-square pixels. Only if the pixel aspect ratio is 8/9 (720 x 8/9 = 640, resulting in display dimensions of 640 x 480). But on some DVDs, the storage dimension is also 720 x 480 but the PAR is 32/27, resulting in a final aspect ratio of 16:9 (display dimensions ...

Re: Anamorphic Questions
My question is in relation to DVD Video, which I believe only comes in a 4:3 variant. Not quite sure what you mean here. Commercial DVDs don't all come in "4:3 variant". Actually, many/most recent DVDs have a 16:9 aspect ratio. Also, once you remove letterboxing and/or pillarboxing (the b...

Re: iTunes vs iPod Touch G2 - Transfer or Stream
Interesting - although not necessarily surprising. Apple tends to be very conservative about what you can sync to your iPod. This kind of testing is better in a dedicated topic though - as you obviously realized. Actually, until the nano gets a web browser, whether the nano can actually cope with CA...

Does it work (i.e. not overlap) in VLC?
This could very well be an iTunes/QuickTime bug (wouldn't surprise me if it were Windows-only, too).

Re: Question about Ipod Nano video format
I do not know what high/low profile means or how to select them. I chose the preset that gave the best performance/file size ratio. I appreciate your clearing it up for me http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Profiles With HandBrake, the H.264 profile is controlled by: http://mewiki.projec...

Re: svn2845 and eyetv recordings
I see you figured it out all by yourself. Indeed, both the AppleTV and iPod will refuse to play (or sync) videos if the frame rate exceeds 30 fps.thisisedge wrote:OK--reading the forums is good. Forcing the Universal preset to 29.97 FPS made a file that plays on the Apple TV and on the iPhone!

Re: Question about Ipod Nano video format
I think it's the resolution....animation gives me around 7xx X 480 resolution.....fine for the iPhone but apparantly not for the nano How about actually reading what others have posted in the thread? Let's put it more bluntly: The Animation preset outputs High Profile H.264, and therefore isn't com...

Re: Question about Ipod Nano video format
It may not be the Nano's specs. It most definitely is. There's no way any version of iTunes will let you transfer high profile H.264 (which is what the Animation preset produces) to any iPod nano. Even if it transferred, the Nano probably wouldn't be able to play it back. in my case, I was able to ...

0.9.3 is out with some kind of mkv -> mp4 remuxing. Remuxable formats: h.264, aac, ac-3, ssa/as s, srt. It may be slow for large files, but in my test it works quite well. Let's not forget a major new feature: an application icon! (which si really nice to have, as Subler now looks less silly in the...

Re: [FIXED] [SVN2807] Snow Leopard and EyeTV Problem
Hi All, I can replicate this with all my EyeTV sources i have tested, and think I have traced it to van's 2831 change. The 10.6 + EyeTV package opening fix worked, this problem came later, I built a few HBs tracing back by libhb changes and this is the revision that seems to break things. Andrew OS...

Thanks! I'll try that next disc, Austin Powers should be ready in about an hour. However, I had to use the "DVDNAV" to get my disc 3 of Monty Python to encode. I guess it varies by disc. I'll report back, but do the developers want to post on this thread regarding "snapshot" bug...
