Re: Incompatibility With Zune Software In 0.9.4

Your settings use vbv-maxrate=768. If you really want a bitrate of 5000, stop using a vbv buffer that's supposed to limit the peak bitrate to 768 Kbps. x264 defaults have changed between HandBrake 0.9.3 and 0.9.4: http://trac.handbrake.fr/changeset/2742 So you'll have to change your options to compe...

Re: 0.9.4 & Forced Subtitles only......

I did some additional searching on this issue and learned how the "Foreign Audio Search" feature works. My other questions is if I have "Foreign Audio Search" selected, and I have "Forced Only" checked, what will happen if none of the subtitle tracks have forced flags? If the there is a full subtit...

Re: iPod Touch / iPhone preset

Hmm, might be. My information on mbtree is quite old. I know that it is enabled whenever using b-frames, but I have not tested it in the last few weeks whether or not it is on without b-frames. Might be my mistake! Nevertheless, having it in the settings strings does no harm, so in the case that it...

Re: PS3 into High Profile?

Im not using quicktime X. I am using Version 7.6.4 (518.35) Is this the problem? Perhaps the version I am running doesn't support the new "mp4" extension? Has something changed within the new version of HB that would result in that error, previously switching the extension seemed to do the trick. Y...

Re: Best Quality, Small Size And And A Fast Rip

So now you're disabling mb-tree (which can increase compression efficiency by 0 to 20%). Also, you can't compare your new settings to your old settings by SSIM since now you're turning off all psy enhancements (no-psy), which happens to include psy-rd. Eeven if the metrics are higher the quality may...

Re: Problems with xbox aspect ratio 0.9.4 "High Profile"

It's been suggested that using High Profile H.264 could cause such an issue on the Xbox. Can you disable the x264 option "8x8 DCT" in the advanced panel and check whether it makes any difference?

Re: Best Quality, Small Size And And A Fast Rip

Wow, thank you Rodeo, to be honest, I hand-picked these settings from about 40 different sets that I tested over various RF and I never imagined that they could be further improved. I like it that you set the partitions yourself and I never even considered that this would offer me better compressio...

Re: Best Quality, Small Size And And A Fast Rip

Setting partitions to none isn't a very good idea. Also, hex is barely slower than dia and gives better results. I took your options, encoded one of my test clips with it, and then tested a few modifications. Note that I'm using SSIM as a quality metric, which can be considered good enough since the...

Re: 5G iPhone and 0.9.4

The "iPod 5G support" checkbox adds a special atom to the file, required by 5G iPods for resolutions above 320 x 240. You still need to use iPod-compatible settings. For the iPod 5G, that means either the iPod or iPod Legacy presets.

Re: AppleTV Custom Presets - 0.9.4

@dynaflash: any reason why you would turn off trellis? Just wondering. Trellis has a speed cost (although the cost of trellis 1 is minimal compared to that of trellis 2). This may seem strange, but analysis hardly increases quality in my testing (both SSIM and double-blind), yet it significantly hu...

Re: 0.94 Hardcode problem

0.9.3 does not support SRT files.

As for 0.9.4, if supports SRT passthrough. However, since HandBrake has no text renderer, so it can't burn in ("hardcode") SRT subtitles, only picture-based DVD subtitles.

Re: 0.9.4 1st gen Mac Pro crashes on 64bit version

Being able to boot a 64-bit kernel has nothing to do with being able to run 64-bit applications, so that's not it. Your Mac Pro has a 64-bit processor, so it can run HandBrake 64-bit. This sounds like a hardware issue. Kernel panics can be caused by bad or failing hardware. You only see it when usin...

Re: Recreating the PS3 preset in v.0.9.4

I too use to use the PS3 setting and found that 95% of the time they played brilliantly on the PS3. I tried using 0.9.4 on 'Normal' to encode a decrypted DVD (episodes of 'Knowing Me, Knowing You...WAP') and had massive problems with audio and video sync problems. That's not due to the preset. Re: Compression artifacts on playback, Apple TV 3.0

It seems like the weighted B-frame would be an advantage if it looked acceptable. Weighted P-frames ;-) Even when weightp is disabled, current x264 still performs fade detection and increases quality when it detects fades. weightp might get you slightly better compression, but it's not mb-tree eith...

Re: Compression artifacts on playback, Apple TV 3.0

What I've noticed is that the 0.9.4 without weightp=0 encodes that cause the blocking on AppleTV 3.0 also cause QuickTime 7.6.4 to crash (although don't crash QuickTime X or QuickTime 7.6.3). I've found this 100% of the time in case that helps. I suspect whatever they did with ATV3.0 they did to 7....

So I'd say it's still quite usable :-) Besides, even if "Attempt scan anyway" worked, if you don't have a 64-bit VLC, DVD decryption won't work so you're limited to non-encrypted sources… I'm sorry, but you can't be serious. Regardless of whether an attempt to scan [anyway] without 64-bit VLC insta...
