Re: Constan Quality Vs. Avg. Bitrate

If you're not downscaling, you may be able to lower the CQ setting even more (as in slightly less than 57%). The idea is to test several percentages and decide which is the best compromise for you, in terms of quality vs. file size.

Re: [PATCH] Fix scan crasher on bogus cell_adr_table entries

I think it would be a good idea to check again with RipIt 1.2.11; I noticed when I updated that there was a change to improve HandBrake compatibility in 1.2.9, 1.2.10 or 1.2.11, I forget exactly which. ...and my copy of Ratatouille is in a box in the basement now.... That would be 1.2.11, according...

Re: [PATCH] Fix scan crasher on bogus cell_adr_table entries

FWIW, I've had similar problems with several Ripit rips a while ago. That is, less titles would be found when scanning the rip with svn (23xx back then) than with 0.9.3. Often, the main title was not considered valid, and sometimes no titles would be found at all. IIRC, it started happening with Rip...

Re: High Quality settings Compatible with Front Row

The AppleTV or Universal presets should create iTunes- (and thus Front Row-) compatible files. Files created using the Universal preset will also be compatible with recent iPods (iPod touch & iPhone, iPod Classic, last-gen iPod Nano) but will be larger for the same Constant Quality setting than the ...

Re: I can encode chapters but not the whole movie!

I can encode individual chapters, or even a group of chapters (say 1-20) and it plays just fine on Quicktime, Realplayer etc. But when I select ALL the chapters, it will not play back on any player . Quicktime error: 2048 "...not a file that Quicktime understands" Settings have remained untouched. ...

Re: Run CRF to find best Average Bitrate

If it's supposed to be transparent "at 70% or over", then what's wrong with the results you're seeing ? 25% is under 70%. 50% is under 70% but over 25%, and so will give you better quality than 25%. 75% is over 50% (and 50% is under 70%), so it will give better quality than 50%. Since 75% is pretty...

Re: Run CRF to find best Average Bitrate

Why is Constant Quality not working? It's supposed to be transparent at 70% or over, but I can definitely see a difference on any setting. 25% is noticably lower quality than 50%, 50%'s lower than 75% and hardly any difference (if not any) between 75% and 100%. If it's supposed to be transparent "a...

Re: Ripping of segments defined by start/end time

The current development snapshot can stop a a given duration (in seconds, IIRC). Maybe you can specify a start time this way, too.

You'll find the snapshot in the announcements section at the top of every forum. Don't forget to read the CLI Guide.

Re: Handbrake multiple files and edit together with iMovie

Use MPEG Streamclip or QuickTime Pro to join the files after they have been encoded with HandBrake. By using iMovie (and therefore re-encoding the footage), you're losing both time and quality.

I use VLC 1.0.0-rc4. It does seem that VLC 0.9.9 won't see the subtitles in your sample file.

Re: Possible Bug [SVN 2592]

Must be a problem with your playback environment.

Your sample file is fine - I can see the Closed Captions in QuickTime and VLC, not cut off. Also, since CC is text (not bitmap) and passed through as such, it can't be "cut off" anyway.

Re: Feature REQ: Ability to cut the movie before encoding

Imagine this: there is a dvd I wish to encode, but I'd like to exclude certain parts of it. On the DVD they are most likely whole chapters, so in this case the most simple solution would be if I could just select in the transcoder to exclude those chapters, and that's it, the cutting is done! Now i...

Re: Need Help Encoding for WD TV HD

I'm using the WD TV HD for playback (I'm on-topic, honest). I haven't noticed any visual artifacts, but the audio gets out of sync by 5, 10, 15 seconds. Rewinding for a moment can usually resync the audio, but it only stays in sync for a moment. What happens if you play the file locally (on your co...

Re: Need Help Encoding for WD TV HD

That rip was done with RipIt, actually. I did several discs with it, several with MTR and got the same results throughout. Either way, the version of Ripit you used is buggy, and the rip may suffer from "visual artifacts" at some points in the movie. Regarding the (AC3) audio out of sync issue, wha...
