Re: Crashing when transcoding 4K MKV

But why? Encoding 4K in an obsolete video format using an average encoder?

Yes, that seems to be it. Regarding low-power encoding support (different issue), we should be able to detect availability of the option and disable it otherwise.

Re: H.265 QSV Encoder Fails with v. 1.3.2

Deleted old previous source ( But similar (source's low bitrate don't matter i think): encqsvInit: MFXVideoENCODE_Init failed (-3) Failure to initialise thread 'Quick Sync Video encoder (Intel Media SDK)' That's the real error. Low power support can probably be queried and added as a capability, li...

Funny thing is the error is not the same when this new feature is enabled in the nightly build : [swscaler @ 0000025ab87f38c0] Warning: data is not aligned! This can lead to a speed loss # Scan Finished ... It stops encoding giving the error. The above error is likely unrelated. Can we get a full l...

HandBrake 1.3.2 is now a sandboxed application, you'll find your presets file here:

Code: Select all

~/Library/Containers/fr.handbrake.HandBrake/Data/Library/Application Support/HandBrake/UserPresets.json

You do have a fairly high RF or 24, maybe try 20 (lower RF, higher quality)?

Try selecting a different subtitle track, or no subtitle track. With only two packets throughout the whole file? I doubt it. Edit: ...

Doubtful, qsv_hevc_make_header doesn't write anything to disk ;)

We just encode a blank frame to get the various parameter sets (SPS/PPS and whatever else HEVC added) for the bitstream.

Even encoding from a mechanical HDD to the same HDD will barely slow things down by, say, 1% if you're being generous.

If you're not adding that yourself, then whatever docker build you're using is stupid and you should build HandBrake from source.

Re: Saving defaults for Video, Audio and Subtitles

The frame rate of the MKV file is exactly 25, as from the DVD. But the frame rate of the M4V / MP4 from HandBrakeCLI is 24.964370, as seen by VLC. This seems to be NTSC, not PAL. So there seem to be a bug in the HQ preset? Actually, the 24.964370 is appropriate for PAL; for NTSC, it would be 29.97 ...

Re: discard video?

If you're sure it's dual Mono, HandBrake has left-only and right-only Mono mixdowns (which discard a channel instead of downmixing two identical channels into one). Might work better for this specific case, you'd have to try it.

Re: Audio Bits Per Sample too high

VLC is probably decoding to 32-bit for all FLAC streams or something (or simply misreporting the bit depth). When you encode to 16-bit FLAC in HandBrake, you get 16-bit FLAC.

Your existing workflow seems OK to me. I haven't tried either of the following apps, but it seems like they may be able to go direct from DTS to Opus, FWIW: http://lamexp.sourceforge.net https://winlame.sourceforge.io On the command line, FFmpeg can do DTS to Opus without even having to demux/remux....
