Depends on your eyes, display, and playback system.

Because video transcoding can be a time consuming process with an unknown result.

Like s55 said, you can increase the verbosity of the logs with a setting in the preferences.

I think it's in the Video tab, that has a option to use the Advanced tab, or you can enter you settings in the options box in that tab.

Straight to the computer would be better.

To note - MakeMKV does not back up DVDs, it only rips DVDs.

Encoding logs are preferred over screen shots as they are actually informative of the encoding process.

Re: Computer overheats while converting files

I have had the same problem since the last version update with temperatures on an AMD dual core processor reaching 160C+ before the PC shuts down. My solution, albeit rather inelegant, has been to the place an old desk fan beside the PC to blow cool air over it - it ain't pretty but it works. My PC...

It's not so much Handbrake, but all the settings for x264.

For Handbrake, you could start with printing out everything here: https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/HandBrakeGuide

So I replaced Version 6214svn x86_64 with the latest nightly build Version 6216svn x86_64 (2014062001) and the latest version is doing the same "overwrite" thing where I get the message and then its done in about two seconds which is impossible considering it is a 450mb file. Got any ideas? Post th...

Re: Medium error

Playback and transcoding are two different beasts.

Try preripping with MakeMKV, and if it still fails with MakeMKV you might have a defective disc.

Re: Playback not working

Yes, you are missing two things.

Something to decrypt the disc and posting the encoding log to see what specifically might have gone wrong if it isn't the decryption issue.

If you're handy, you can upgrade the CPU in that mini to a Core 2 Duo, but it's not for the faint of heart.

Re: Cannot encode with x264 but MPEG4 is fine

As I suggested, your cooling system might be overwhelmed. Perhaps opening up the case (if it's not a laptop) and cleaning out the cooling system of any dust build up might fix the issue. From a quick look around the interwebs, it looks like that CPU shouldn't go above 80 C. So either make sure your ...

Re: BD encode seems washed out?

It might be the software that is playing the BD is different from the one playing your files. So it might be using a different color profile. A better way to test would be to rip with MakeMKV and play that file in the same application that you are playing your files in, and then see if it still look...

Re: Cannot encode with x264 but MPEG4 is fine

I didn't see anything crazy in the two logs I checked.

I couldn't say for certain, but if x264 is more intensive than MPEG4, then your CPU might be overheating if the cooling system is fouled up.

You could try monitoring the CPU temp and see if that's it.

Nothing about the job leaps out to me, but did Handbrake crash, or did you only copy part of the log?

Posting a full log works better than just posting the final part after you've configured and started the job.

If you have a mostly Apple oriented household, why not use an Apple oriented preset?

Re: MKV -> MP4: Great video quality, choppy sound!

It's possible that the source file is corrupted, but I'm sure you've played it in the same player to see if it's good or bad to test.

Nevermind, I see that your source is an mkv and the ATVs don't care for those...
