Re: Is there a way to see how big files are before ripped?

The source used by sites like Apple is better than the source you have available. The easiest way to rip a disc and have it be the same quality as the source is to use MakeMKV. That will give you a large file which you can then run through Subler to convert the audio, and swap the container, to a fo...

Also, if you take a look at the preset file, it might be in a nearly readable format that you could adapt to the current version of Handbrake.

If you have 50GB to use, why not use it to push as much of a bitrate as the spec allows?

The log would tell us what OS you are using, what particular version of Handbrake you are using, and any settings that might play into the issue at hand.

Re: Is there a way to see how big files are before ripped?

With constant quality, there is no way to guess the file size. It could come out substantially smaller, or it could even come out larger.

If you use a constant, or average, bitrate then you could use any of the calculators out there to figure out the projected file size.

Re: BluRay Rips Judder/stutter

I think what we don't understand is: Why are you deinterlacing a progressive source? Also, Handbrake is updated on a nearly nightly basis, with a regular 'stable' release coming out on a 'yearly' schedule. The new 'stable' release just came out. Note that you should back up your custom presets (if y...

Re: Bulk Files and adding Forced Foreign Subtitles

Usually when I'm setting up a queue, it keeps the settings I have for anything other than what I'm changing. So your video settings should be the same until you change them.

As for audio and subtitles, that is the behavior desired by the developers.

Re: Handbrake stopps encoding on large files

Your first and third logs are the same, and the second log is a scan log.

I'm not sure, but from the looks of it, there might be an issue with this source file. Or there might be an issue with the decoder used for this video format.

It would be an obsolete SVN.

I think if you run a short encode, the activity log will tell you the SVN number.

"I suppose an option to suppress the warning would be nice" would mean that it would have to be added either by the developers or a patch.

Re: Bulk Files and adding Forced Foreign Subtitles

Subtitles are a pain in the backside since there is no standard way to do them on a DVD or BD. You are basically going to have to note what each title does and set up that encode appropriately.

Try setting a test encode where you set the framerate option to Constant Frame Rate and see if that works.

Although I didn't test against my i5 Mac mini(HTPC), I found installing Win7 64 to be the best over all option for me. I found Ubuntu to be a nightmare to get set up and get going, and Win7 was pretty easy to get everything going. As for CPU, which is the most important consideration for Handbrake, ...
