Re: Audio Code Problem

You seem to be confusing mkv with m4v. m4v is the same as mp4 it is usually so named because it includes chapter information and/or an AC3 audio track as well as the AAC track, you can rename mp4 to m4v and vice-versa and usually suffer no ill consequences, whilst mkv or matroska is a totally differ...

Be aware if you are using a nightly build of the cli.
That

Code: Select all

-L
or

Code: Select all

--longest

has been replaced by

Code: Select all

--main-feature

Re: Soft subtitle pass-through (especially for m4v to m4v)

@ Norrin

Are you aware that DVD sourced vobsubs are indeed, supported as soft subs by HB, as long as the container you are encoding to is MKV?

Which IMO makes the wiki entry substantially correct.

Re: Handbrake crashes when reading DVD

Whilst I have no problems with the preview functionality, I think I can help you with where HandBrake is placing the preview files. On my linux box ghb puts the live preview files in /tmp/hb.###### Where ###### seems to be the process ID number of ghb. The file is named live## (No file extension) wh...

One more codec you could try is Avids DNxHD codec http://www.avid.com/dnxhd/ . Quicktime codec download page:- http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=263545 I find HandBrake handles DNxHD mov files exported from Sony Vegas or MPEG Streamclip with aplomb. Any opinions on these changes going in? This provides higher quality audio than faac in mp4 for those the have players that support it. This includes many linux and windows players and devices like DROID. I've Just done a test encode to prove it, and it looks like the WDTV supports mp3 audio in mp4...

Re: Audio out of Sync on AppleTV

Have you tried an encode using a constant 23.976 fps instead of same as source?

On the very rare occasions I encounter an A/V sync issue, the first thing I do is try encoding at a constant frame rate.

Code: Select all

/Volumes/Video/Tivo Shows/Mom and Dad Movies/
Because

Code: Select all

GUI ERROR dialog: muxmp4.c: MP4Create failed!
Would suggest that it hasn't.

As mduell says you don't want to go that high. The HandBrake wiki entry on constant quality http://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/ConstantQuality Most people are happy with x264 quality settings of (60% / Ratefactor 20) to (63% Ratefactor 19). Encoding DVD sources at higher percentages (lower Ratefactors) t...

The header editor resides under the file menu. At least it does on version 2.9.8.. According to this downloads page http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html Current versions of MKVToolNix are supplied by the MacPorts project. At the moment v3.0.0 is available there. You have to ins...

Yes it will re-mux to a new file but it usually only takes a couple of minutes. I just delete the original after proving the new file works as expected.

Re: Unrecognizable Audio in WMP12 (Windows 7)

If the StaxRip mkv plays in WMP, have you tried a HandBrake encode with just an AC3 pass through track? As the one in your log has both an AAC track and an AC3 track. Also have you tried swapping the audio tracks whilst playing? to ascertain which or if both tracks are causing the issue.

As VlC plays the file fine it doesn't seem to be a HandBrake problem.
I would try updating your Shark007 codec package
The changelog for the current release mentions: - fix S/PDIF audio bug.

I would try selecting the English AC3 audio track instead of the PCM track, (on HandBrakes audio tab), see if that cures your problem. Use the preview functionality to check it isn't the Directors Commentary track.

I think you can only apply an offset to an imported srt subtitle, If you are including the subs off the dvd in the rip you can't adjust the time offset. Your best bet would probably be to find the subs in your native language, in srt format, from somewhere like http://www.opensubtitles.org/fr/ . The...

My daughter tends to play the files back onto her bedroom TV which has an built in iPod dock, and on this screen they look good, on the iPod Nano screen they look great. You are losing about 20% of vertical resolution but if you are not playing back onto a 50" TV then you probably won't see it. The ...

Re: encoded all files the same but some won't transfer to iPod

I've had this problem with my daughters nano 5g + Universal Preset and 16:9 25 fps PAL DVDs. I had to reduce the vertical pixel height from 576 to 480 to get iTunes 9 to sync to the nano.

Her nano is however the 5g with the video camera.

I would like to know what all this code means which is added to the advanced settings??
A good place to start would be the HandBrake wiki pages http://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/x264Options

Or the x264 MeWiki page : http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/X264_Settings
