Re: Unable to run any nightly build
I just downloaded SVN 5024 (artifact: HandBrake-svn5024_i686-Win_GUI.exe) and am experiencing the same problem. Completely blank screen. When I close Handbrake I also receive the same error message.
I reinstalled 4907 and that is working fine.

Re: libavresample: Dolby downmix oddity
That is quite interesting and I'm concerned situations of strong front-rear correlation may be more typical than perhaps assumed. Before this particular situation I've been setting my left rear channel's volume higher than the right rear, even though when I play the receiver's volume-balancing test ...

Re: Dolby Pro Logic II (2 channel) vs 6 Channel Discrete?
Use 6 channel discrete then for both DVD and Blu-ray. Make sure to select "AAC (ffmpeg)" instead of "AAC (faac)"; the ffmpeg implementation seems better than faac's.

Re: Dolby Pro Logic II (2 channel) vs 6 Channel Discrete?
Depends on what audio bitrate you are using. At or under 256 kbps, Dolby Pro Logic II will be better than 6 channel discrete. Also what is your source? DVD? If so then use "Auto Passthru" instead of "6 channel discrete" because there is no sense in transcoding an AC3 5.1 track (w...

Re: SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors
OK, good news is that SVN 4907 fixes the problem with the AC3 2.0 tracks. The audio of these secondary tracks is clean without any buzzing. I also haven't encountered a situation where the encode process terminates early. So I believe you can close this particular bug. The issue with the DPL2 and DS...

Try the latest nightly, SVN 4907. It fixes this problem for 2 different sources of mine.

libavresample: Dolby downmix oddity
I discovered an additional issue. I played back the SVN 4899 encode I made where I converted the DTS-HD track to AC3 with DPL2 mixdown. Over a 5.1 setup with my receiver's surround mode set to DPL2 I noticed the left surround channel was practically silent while the right surround (and all other cha...

Re: error with 2.0 ac3 surround sound audio
It's a "soft" crash, if you want to call it that. The encode process starts, the output file is created, but within say 10 seconds, the encode process stops suddenly, the GUI displays "Queue Completed" or "Encode Complete" on the status bar (no error message) and you're...

Re: SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors
As a sanity check I re-installed SVN 4829 and using the same settings the audio in the second track was correct. As a validation the primary track was reduced in volume which was typical for non-AC3 sources for that build.

Re: SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors
Using FLAC, changed samplerate to Auto. Mono mixdown: Tried twice (same settings). First time the buzzing was consistent in pitch, the second time the pitch varied like you were hitting piano keys. In both cases, the audio was just the buzzing sound and the original audio did not come through at all...

Re: SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors
Here's the full log for a single chapter encode; track 2 has the buzzing character. I also tried an encode with samplerate set to Auto but the buzzing sound remained. Re: SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors
I installed the 4899 CLI and retried my two sources. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time getting consistent reportable results, it's a mess. I no longer see "hb_audio_resample" errors in the logs. That's the most consistent change. When I tried my BD source (The Tree Of Life), the problem...

Re: SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors
I've encountered the problem for both DVD and BD sources. The problematic tracks have always been stereo AC3 secondary tracks (like director commentary). Source track 1 (main audio stream) has never been a problem, whether it is 5.1 or 2.0 or AC3 or DTS. The secondary/commentary tracks aren't always...

SVN 4887 - hb_audio_resample errors
Since the latest bump of libav, I am now seeing the following error crop up in some encodes: ERROR: hb_audio_resample_update: avresample_open() failed ERROR: hb_audio_resample: resample needed but libavresample context is NULL In one example this is how I was trying to encode the audio : [06:51:42] ...

Yes, I got the 4887 CLI and can confirm that the audio levels are back to "normal" and don't need any gain adjustment. Thanks for that.

Re: CPU Core Temperature
It's a quick fix but you can slow down the encoding process by using fewer threads. This will reduce CPU utilization and heat generation. On the Advanced tab of Handbrake append the following to textarea at the bottom: :threads=3 You can use a higher or lower number, it's something you can experimen...

Re: SVN 4829 - Center Channel missing on DPLII mixdown
OK, I understand now why the HD-sourced encodes are lower in volume. This is not a bug. Does Handbrake apply audio gain before or after any downmix? If it's after the downmix then it should be relatively safe to apply the 6 dB gain. However if it's before the downmix then any positive gain risks cli...

Re: SVN 4829 - Center Channel missing on DPLII mixdown
I initially was using my TV's built-in speakers, pure 2ch stereo. I just replayed the video again, this time over my 5.1 system with a DPLII receiver. You are right that the relative volume of the 5 individual channels appears correct. If I play a pre-SVN4829 encode at 100% volume in VLC, I need to ...

SVN 4829 - Center Channel missing on DPLII mixdown
I noticed the audio volume was too low on encodes I made earlier today using a recent HB build. Upon further review I determined that the 5.1 mixdown to DPLII must have ignored or severely attenuated the center channel. This is probably a result of changeset 4825: "Eliminates our builtin downmi...
