Re: x265 fast-decode tune
No problem. I tried fast-decode with the CLI and it does work. And it gave me a good excuse to finally learn the CLI.

x265 fast-decode tune
x265 has a fast-decode tune but it's not a selectable option on the Linux GUI in the latest nighties. Could it be added? Thanks.

TrueHD passthru
I saw a patch for TrueHD passthru on the ReviewBoard site. Would it be possible to implement? It would be very helpful when encoding Blu-Rays for XBMC.

Mac GUI regression in 3532 [Fixed]
dynaflash, I noticed a regression in 3532 in the main window of the Mac GUI. It's no longer showing the two line encoding status readout that you introduced in 3483.

Re: You have made 10 million DivX/XviD players useless well
The great thing about open source is that you can do the following:
1. Checkout the code.
2. Fork and put avi/xvid/divx back in.
3. Release.
4. Make your millions and millions of people happy.
Problem solved.

No. Upscaling just wastes space. Encode DVD's at their native resolution.

Detelecine and decomb
I'm going to have to assume the jerkiness is from failing to detelecine before decombing. Jbrjake, I noticed this comment from you in another thread and I was wondering if the decomb filter can be run without detelecine when using same as source for the framerate? Or should the two always be run in...

Re: .ts (1080i/AC3) encodes with choppy video and odd audio
With all due respect jbrjake, he did ask for support for a released version. I understand your reasons though. 1. Handbrake is an open source project and the developers are contributing their time on a voluntary basis. 2. If you have the ability to troubleshoot on your own using the SVN code, please...

Anamorphic question
This may be a stupid question and I'll apologize in advance if it is. I have read the anamorphic section of the wiki and I searched through previous posts. For 4:3 and hard letterboxed DVD's, is there any harm in encoding with the anamorphic setting on? Or is it better to turn it off and set the hor...

Re: Blu-ray support?
I wouldn't hold my breath for a long term open source Bluray decryption program. I'd go into more details but I don't want to break any forum rules. I use: 1. AnyDVD HD 2. eac3to to mux the video into an MKV file. 3. eac3to to convert any audio tracks to AC3 if needed. 4. Mkvmerge to add audio track...

Re: what bitrate to aim for?
I don't know if Handbrake can read WMV files. I haven't tried it myself. I know it can transcode the VC-1 codec that your file uses.
Try using the Constant Quality Rate preset and set Constant Quality to 55%.

Re: what bitrate to aim for?
As nightstrm already said, unless your WMV-HD clip is short, it's already very compressed to begin with. Why do you need to compress it further? And what are you trying to view it on?

Re: what bitrate to aim for?
I would recommend using the Constant Quality Rate preset instead. There's no need to use the other average bitrate presets unless the files have to be a certain size.

Re: Remux only? How is transcoded quality?
Eac3to can demux Bluray m2ts files and remux them into an mkv that Handbrake can read. It's freeware but it's also closed source and Windows only which is unfortunate. It works very well though with multiple and branching m2ts files.

Re: x264 Options w/CRF
Thanks. Even though I've been reading the Doom9 H264 forum on and off for the past 2 years, I'm still a beginner with this. Is psyrdo the biggest reason the CRF scale has changed since 9.2?

Re: x264 Options w/CRF
How much of a quality difference does psy-rdo, psy-trellis, and trellis make? From the limited testing I've done, changing psy-trellis from 0 to 1 seems to increase the overall file size by as much as 20%. Am I better off using a CRF quality value of 60% with psy-trellis or 62% to 65% without it?

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.
The preset is 60% although that was probably meant for SD. The file size with psy-rd:1,0.2 will end up being around 11.7 GB for a two hour movie including the AC3 audio. I'll gladly try something lower than 59% for HD if that value is too high. I just don't want to sacrifice quality too much.

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.
I agree. I probably overshot with the psy-trellis. The psy-rd:1,1 bit can probably go to psy-rd:1,0.4 or even (says cvk_b) psy-rd:1,0.2 or lower. Thanks. I'll retry the encode with psy-rd:1,0.2 and will report the results. Would you also recommend changing it to 1,0.4 or 1,0.2 for a DVD source?
