Thank you! Glad to have it confirmed I'm not going mad.

Is that deliberate? If it is, please re-instate my original request: a mono mixdown option.

Re: Please help me find the downmix to mono option

Mono is available from the Mixdown dropdown menu on the Audio tab. It is only available with Vorbis and AAC audio selected in the Audio Codec Dropdowns Thanks for your reply. So I am looking in the right place? As I said, Mono has not been present as a mixdown option with any of the source material...

Re: Quicktime decoding?

That's a big shame cause i'm using FCP to import the AVCHD videomaterial from my Sony HDR-SR12E camcorder (1080i) and converting it to AppleProRes for cutting. Afterwards it would be great if i could use Handbrake to convert it back to AVCHD for using the footage for Bluray production (Apple Compre...

Re: Quicktime decoding?

I've used Handbrake for quite some years now and its one of the best tools for DVD ripping. Since the latest release v0.9.3 the program is no longer limited to DVDs as a source which increases the possibilities in an enormous way. As far as i understand Handbrake uses VLC in the background to decod...

No. HandBrake doesn't currently support that audio codec. You'll have to use other tools instead.

Re: Place VLC Somewhere Besides /Applications

With the new version of HandBrake, I am "unable" to rip encrypted DVDs. This is because HandBrake will only look for VLC in the /Applications/ folder. How do I get HandBrake to look in another directory for VLC? I have all my non-Apple applications loaded in ~/Applications/<category>/, wh...

Please help me find the downmix to mono option

In this thread , s55 states that there is an option to downmix audio tracks to mono, but for the life of me I can't find it. With any source files I've tried, the only option in the "mixdown" drop-down is "Stereo". For example, when I load a .mpeg with MPEG-2 video and .mp2 audio...

Now I'll just have to learn what all these options means (or which ones I don't have to care about), boy are there options... :) Glad it's working for you :-). If you're talking about the QT x264 component options, take a look at the HandBrake help files, you should be able to figure out which adva...

Re: [0.9.3] Mac GUI: loading a .mov with WMV tracks causes crash

Yeh, You've got a horrible combination going on here. The WMV's won't work since the audio isn't supported. Straight-up WMV with WMA 9 standard rather than professional does work. As I said earlier it works rather nicely because the libraries you are using decode WMV a lot faster than the Flip4Mac ...

Re: [0.9.3] Mac GUI: loading a .mov with WMV tracks causes crash

I honestly do not know how you could crash in ScanFunc and not have a larger log than that. Scanning comes after opening the file for reading, which is when libavformat would provide all the details we're looking for. else if ( (data->stream = hb_stream_open( data->path, 0 ) ) != NULL ) { hb_list_a...

Re: [0.9.3] Mac GUI: loading a .mov with WMV tracks causes crash

I have been able to re-encode a snippet of the file I linked to earlier using WMV 9 and WMA (standard) 9 codecs. I've uploaded a .wmv encapsulated version here , and a .mov encapsulated version here . Yes, the .mov is huge relative to the .wmv. For me, VLC will open the .wmv fine and play it fine. H...

Re: [0.9.3] Mac GUI: loading a .mov with WMV tracks causes crash

This is correct. Those wmv's on Microsoft don't have sound. HandBrake requires that a track has sound otherwise it'll return no titles found. The one I linked to does. According to QuickTime it's WMA 9 professional with a 48 kHz sample rate. have discovered that trying to load a .mov that contains ...

Re: Audio garbled in video from Canon camera (HandBrake 0.9.3)

Guys, you may be able to use MPEG streamclip and the x264 QuickTime component (much better than Apple's rubbish implementation of H.264). First, install the x264 component, then install MPEG streamclip and open your video file. Hopefully MPEG streamclip will be able to handle the audio codec. You ca...

Re: [0.9.3] Mac GUI: loading a .mov with WMV tracks causes crash

There is no failing encode. The app crashes when it tries to load the file. To reproduce bug, do this: 1.) Launch HandBrake 2.) Press "load source" if the file open dialogue hasn't opened automatically 3.) Navigate to a .mov-encapsulated WMV file 4.) Press "open" 5.) Watch HandBr...

[0.9.3] Mac GUI: loading a .mov with WMV tracks causes crash

Hi, I've just started using 0.9.3 [on Mac OS X Intel 10.5.5 on a MacBook Pro late 2008 2.4 GHz 2GiB RAM] and have discovered that trying to load a .mov that contains a video track encoded in WMV 9 and an audio track in WMA 9 causes a crash. Re: Mono option for sound export

Not with any of the source files I've loaded into 0.9.3. With export setting set to .mp4 file format, AAC codec for sound, the only option in the "mixdown" drop-down is Stereo. I there an extra option I'm missing somewhere?

Thanks.

Re: Where did some b-frame options go?

Thanks for the speedy reply.

So if I set the subpixel motion estimation dropdown to "7", I'll get pixels divided into 6 pieces for the purposes of motion estimation, and both "B-frame rate distortion" and "bidirectional refinement" will be enabled?

Mono option for sound export

Sometimes I encode videos where the sound is mainly voice - this doesn't need to be stereo so I can get a smaller encode by using mono and a lower bitrate - i.e. Mono at 32 kbps gives the same quality as stereo at 64 kbps. Please could we have an option to downmix to mono?

Where did some b-frame options go?

Have just downloaded HandBrake 0.9.3 - thanks to everyone for all their hard work, universal video input is a much appreciated feature! Anyway, I like to encode using H.264 and am wondering what has happened to the "B-frame rate distortion" and "bidirectional refinement" options ...
