Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively
Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately I have some software that still won't work in Leopard so I guess I have some decisions to make

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively
I haven't seen this question in the General or Mac forum so I am asking it here. Why is the new HandBrake only compatible with 10.5? Is there a way to compile it for 10.4.11? There are still quite a few of us that are not Leopard users that would like to start compiling AC3 passthru in our movies. T...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively
The audio being out of sync makes total sense, but I do agree that it at least proves what they are *likely* doing with movies from iTunes that pass AC3. So that is a good thing. The difficult part (if I read some of the posts properly) is getting HandBrake to create .MOV files. I am sure it can be ...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively
So how do you get an AC3 track from a DVD? Also...what settings do you use in Quicktime to export to MOV...there are several settings?

Ratatouille has a bogus Chapter 1 that causes Handbrake to quit after 30 seconds. The movie itself starts on Chapter 2. I was able to rip with no problems by starting on Chapter 2. Could you elaborate a little more on what you did? Did you do a movie-only rip with MTR (which version) starting at ch...

Ratatouille won't encode. To elaborate on Ratatouille, I can get a successful movie-only extraction with MTR 3.0 R14h and it has no Zero Cells. However, the extraction is 88 chapters and when you open that with HandBrake, it only sees 1-79. I am worried that this is some kind of cap in HandBrake an...

Blades of Glory?
I have searched the forums to no avail on this one. I am worried that my problem may be unique. When I run Blades of Glory through MacTheRipper 3.0 r14d, it crashes right towards the end. I still have a folder that is 6.98GB when I am finished, but when I try to open it with DTOX I just get the spin...

Cav - I just finished ripping Black Snake Moan with MacTheRipper 3.0 r14d using MOVIE ONLY and I have the same problem...no credits! This is totally weird that your MTR rip was fine and mine wasn't. You using the same version of MTR? I originally had CABAC on when I was doing ABR rips and it was not...

Cav - Well I went back and opened the original VIDEO_TS folder that MacTheRipper spit out and it has the credits cut off too! So the problem happened before HandBrake got a hold of it. I will go back and see if doing a MOVIE ONLY rip in MTR makes any difference. Might have to try an older version of...

sdm - I have been delving into CRF testing quite heavily in the last week and I have moved completely away from 2-pass ABR just because I can't visually see the difference in a 3500 ABR rip and a CRF 64% rip on my HDTV (playing through my AppleTV). And like you mentioned, the filesize is generally l...

Convert HandBrake High Quality Rips To iPod Rips?
I am ripping all of my DVD's at a really high quality to take advantage of my HDTV and AppleTV. I typically do a Constant Quality (CRF) at or above 70%. This provides me with a near-dvd quality rip that looks great on my HDTV/AppleTV. However, these rips are not compatible with the iPod/iPhone. Has ...

Okay...I finally have the CRF working and my brain on straight :) Just encoded Black Snake Moan at 70% CRF and came out with a smaller movie than I did with 70% no-CRF and when I look at it on my HDTV it looks better! I am MORE than impressed. Now can I get even BETTER quality by jacking up the perc...

HOLY CRAP dudes! I get the f-in n00b award of the century! I have been TOTALLY confusing CQ and CRF as the same thing this entire damn time! I have just been setting that Constant Quality radio button and sliding the slider over to around 70% and thinking that was the same thing as CRF for some dumb...

Thanks for this thread! This has inspired me to do some of my own CRF testing to see what I like best. Size is really not an issue for me since drives are so dang cheap now, but quality and compatibility with my AppleTV are. I have been doing everything at 3500 because once I got my HDTV I noticed t...

I just remembered I can SSH and VNC to my Mac at home :) Just moused over the CABAC option and it says it is to increase quality for a given bitrate, but specifically says that the AppleTV will struggle and to leave it off for it! Interesting since the AppleTV preset has it checked. I really find al...
