Re: B-Frames and CRF Question

@jbrjake
Is there a reason you are doing away with the constant quality preset? Also, can you maybe shed a little more light on what the changes to CRF are and how they effect encoding?

Re: B-Frames and CRF Question

Thanks again for the info. If it helps, I am using the constant quality setting with CRF 19. Is psy-trellis on by default now? The only thing I see in Mediainfo output that looks similar is psy_rd=1.0:1.0. Is that psy-trellis? I do use regular trellis=1 but that was the same before the new x264 and ...

Re: B-Frames and CRF Question

refulgentis, Thanks for the reply. That conversion you posted is extremely helpful! So if b-adapt is on by default as you posted above, then is it safe to use a value of 16 for B-frames as suggested by MEGUI? I know that having more b-frames makes the file smaller, but I am still wondering what the ...

B-Frames and CRF Question

Two questions actually, first does handbrake have adaptive b-frames set to on as default? I read on the megui forums that their constant quality profile has 16-bframes because they also use adaptive b-frames which then only uses the needed number of b-frames and no more. If adaptive b-frames is NOT ...

Re: DVD to H264 at full quality with handbrake?

Ok, here is what I am going to try. I am going to use film with deblocking set to -2,-1 (borrowed from constant quality) at 62% Does that sound about right? For the TV and Anime I am going to use their respective presets and only change them to 62% Anyone see any flaws with this? Edit: Didn't see Bl...

Re: DVD to H264 at full quality with handbrake?

Thanks Dynaflash, You said you use Cabac? With which preset? Eddyg said it won't work on Appletv. I am not looking for one preset that will work for all types of content. I am looking for one preset each for three different types of content that will work 99% of the time. Hope that clarifies my jibb...

Re: DVD to H264 at full quality with handbrake?

So you are saying like treml, that since I am NOT using it on ATV and I will be using it on an HTPC that I should go with Film for movies, Tv shows=tv, and Anime=anime settings with AC-3 passthrough at 62%? Would you suggest Film or Constant Q for Movies? What are the main differences between the tw...

Re: DVD to H264 at full quality with handbrake?

Jay Ell, Thanks for the response. You are using AAC sound correct? Are you running them on an Appletv or some other device for playback. I have heard great things about the ATV setting, but what I wonder is this. Since I am not going to be playing back my encodes on ANY apple products, would that st...

Re: DVD to H264 at full quality with handbrake?

The AppleTV preset at 0.62 is basically the same as the DVD (as far as I can tell) - it's what I and other Developers are using. Cheers, Ed. Would that go the same for Constant Quality Preset at 62% ? I am actually looking for an mkv with AC-3 sound. Or would you suggest just using the appletv pres...

[Resolved] [SVN 1913] Crash opening activity log

Snapshot 5 Windows Vista. Constant Quality Settings Reproducable Every time I try to open the activity window while an encode is in progress I get a crash. It works if the encode has not started yet. It seems to be indescriminate as it happens on all titles, not just one DVD. I would provide a log b...

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 4

- Constant Quality Rate still needs its quality % lowered, probably Yup, its called way newer x264 that totally rocks. :) Hopefully this isn't breaking the rules of this thread ;) Could someone elaborate on this comment in the change log and on dynaflash's comment about the new x264. The reason I a...

Re: Colors look horrible when using anamorphic (with log)

Great! That is what I was looking for. Does it have any effect on overall encoding time? I know when it finds something to deinterlace/decomb/detelecine it will naturally take longer, but when there is no work for the filters to do encoding times should be the same right? Cheers and thanks for the r...

Re: Colors look horrible when using anamorphic (with log)

Hi there! Hope this is not considered "thread jacking" but I didn't want to start a new thread because my question seems to be partially explained in this thread ;) Are there ANY disadvantages to leaving decomb and detelecine on at all times? Even if the content is NOT telecined? I am runn...

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 4

Great news! Thanks for another great release and for the amazing app. Lots of great stuff in this snapshot. - DTS and HDMV DTS audio support in streams Any chance someone can elaborate on this? I am assuming this is NOT passthrough for DTS? Is this just the option of picking the DTS stream to be re-...
