Re: Freeze while Reading Source

Sorry for yet another post but I have more info now... It appears that using DVDShrink to re-author the DVD works. I simply selected the movie files and left out all the other stuff. Saved that on my HDD. Handbrake now appears to be re-encoding them nicely. It's a bit of a pain since it's two steps,...

Re: Freeze while Reading Source

I take it back... first re-generating using DVDShrink also does not work. Handbrake says it's successfully read the files after about 10 minutes! It shows the 6 episodes correctly, but it doesn't encode them correctly. It seems to simply give up a few seconds after starting. Really odd. It's almost ...

Re: Freeze while Reading Source

Hi I have the same problem with a set of DVD's. They are Chip 'n' Dale Volume 1, 2 and 3. I am using the latest version of AnyDVD - 6.5.0.7. Each DVD has 6 episodes but Handbrake (0.9.3) just sticks on "Reading Source" on all of them. I have managed to put around 35 DVD's on my media serve...

Re: AC3 Downsampling

Hi,

Has anyone tried AutoMKV???

This says it can produce a .M2TS which should play 5.1 channel AC3 files.

Re: 5.1 Surround Sound for a PS3 file?

Hi there I've just used this program and find that the files produced don't include a time stamp (if that's what you call it). The PS3 and VLC both can't read the length of the movie plus fast forward and rewind both do not work. Have you got any solutions to fix this? I wonder if the PS3 2.50 firmw...

Re: AC3 Downsampling

Well I'm going to bed frustrated - oo err. Well that program works fine and the PS3 now reads the 5.1 info. The problem is you can't fast forward easily and it simply won't rewind. The conversion doesn't have any time coding so the PS3 says the movie is 596 days long and VLC just reads it as 0. I th...

Re: AC3 Downsampling

Well I've managed to come across a great solution:

mkv2vob

I've seen it mentioned a few times but it working brilliantly. Just create an mkv file within HandBrake and then give this to mkv2vob. Takes less than 5 seconds and it works in 5.1 sound via optical.

Re: AC3 Downsampling

Sorry it appears you're right.

I re-encoded the mp4 file into an mkv file using HB and it's produced a 5.1 file.

I wonder why mp4 files can't be read properly.

Re: AC3 Downsampling

Sorry I don't fully understand. Are you telling me the file generated has 5.1 sound but is being misread? Have you looked at it because no software I have says it's 5.1. The other files definately created with 6 channels are larger even though the same codecs and compression was used suggesting more...

Aha, if I select the mkv container I get 6 channel AC3 sound.

Can anyone explain?

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 3

Okay sorry there are a few things wrong/missing on the previous post... Using HandBrake svn 1797 I am trying to stream hi-res great sounding movies from my Twonky server to my PS3 but want a max of 1GB/hour file size. I have tried mp4 file with h264 and AC3 but only get 2 channel sound via optical o...

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 3

Hi, and thanks for your comments. Not sure I'm following entirely. Firstly after creating an mp4 file with h264 and AC3 it plays on the PS3 and says it's 2 channel. VNC 0.9.2 also says 2 channel. I tried AAC but outputting that seems to not play through my amp. When I go into settings and untick AAC...

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 3

Sorry, to expand I am producing an mp4 file from my dvd which I put on a LinkStation running Twonky. I want to stream it to my ps3 with the best quality possible (max 1gb/hour file size), including 5.1 sound.

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 3

Oh also, not sure I understand the stuff about AC3 when generating a h264 file. My DVD is 5.1 and my amplifier does not accept ACC. So AC3 5.1 is my only option. Is this a limitation of HandBrake? I have produced files with 5.1 sound that works but not sure if it was HandBrake or DVDx. I don't under...

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 3

Hi Everyone One thing I have noticed after several days of playing with HandBrake... When I try to backup a PAL DVD and select the Frame Rate as "Same as Source" it doesn't actually take notice of this. According to VLC the generated h.264 mp4 file was 3.055767 Now it seemed to play nicely...
