Well I've managed to come across a great solution:

mkv2vob

I've seen it mentioned a few times but it working brilliantly. Just create an mkv file within HandBrake and then give this to mkv2vob. Takes less than 5 seconds and it works in 5.1 sound via optical.

I re-encoded the mp4 file into an mkv file using HB and it's produced a 5.1 file.

I wonder why mp4 files can't be read properly.

Sorry I don't fully understand. Are you telling me the file generated has 5.1 sound but is being misread? Have you looked at it because no software I have says it's 5.1. The other files definately created with 6 channels are larger even though the same codecs and compression was used suggesting more...

Hi Everyone One thing I have noticed after several days of playing with HandBrake... When I try to backup a PAL DVD and select the Frame Rate as "Same as Source" it doesn't actually take notice of this. According to VLC the generated h.264 mp4 file was 3.055767 Now it seemed to play nicely...
